What don't you understand?
Have you read your owners manual?
Do you realize that the Check Light ,means you have a problem??
Now you need to take it to a shop ,and have them scan for codes & repair,

My hold light wont turn off on a 2003 kia sportage. It keeps flashing I have unhooked the battery twice the first time it turned off the second time It didnt work. Anyone know how I can fix this probl

I am not sure what a hold light is, if you speaking of a break stopping light staying on, i would look at the break switch at the break pedal and pull up on your break pedal see if stop lights go out..if they do the switch should have adjustment..make sure lights work perfect after adjustment before going back out on the road, if you are hitting you engine starter to make engine start i would think its time for new starter and cylinoid and also check your batter cables make sure everything is tight and cables are good ...make sure the neg. cables has good clean ground conection to engine......

Check engine light cones on and stays on , engine starts and stops.

Hi there:
The four most common Check Engine Light scenarios and what to do:
* The Check Engine Light turns on and off or flickers.
If the Check Engine Light comes on in the city but goes off on the freeway, then the fault is present during city driving conditions. Pay attention to whether or not the vehicle runs or drives any differently when the Check Engine Light illuminates. If vehicle performance does change, drive the car as little as possible and take it to be checked by a service professional as soon as possible. If there is no change in vehicle performance, you can drive home, but have it inspected as soon as possible. In this condition, you run a risk of the vehicle dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light comes on and stays on.
If the Check Engine Light illuminates constantly during driving with no noticeable driving or performance problems, there is a permanent fault in the emission control system. When this happens, the computer that controls the emission system usually has a backup program that runs while the fault is present. (These backup programs are often referred to as "limp home" mode programs.) You should get the vehicle serviced as soon as possible, but in most cases, the vehicle will continue to operate, though you run a risk of it dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light illuminates, stays on, and there are performance problems.
This means that a vital component of your emission control and engine management system has a serious problem. It usually involves a component or system needed for the vehicle to run at all. In most cases, drive the vehicle as little as possible. In many cases, the vehicle is not safe to drive at all -it could stop or stall out at any moment. It is best to pull over to a safe place and have the vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for a thorough inspection and repair.

* The Check Engine Light light comes on and blinks in a steady pattern while driving.
Don't confuse this steady pulsing of the Check Engine Light light (usually one or more flashes per second) with a flicker (see above). The Check Engine Light may stay on steadily or it may flash when the vehicle is accelerated. This is very serious. There is a severe failure of the emission control system that is causing the engine to misfire to the point that the catalytic converter is damaged each time the Check Engine Light flashes. It may mean that the catalytic converter is overheating to the point that it will glow red or, in extreme cases, start a fire on the underside of the vehicle. Immediately pull over to a safe place and have your vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for repair. Vehicles can be severely damaged and even destroyed by fire if this condition is ignored for too long.

Pay attention at the self-read Jeep codes procedure, note the code numbers there and send it us for additional details:
- put key in ignition
- push and hold the odometer/trip mileage button (the little black one that comes out of the gauge cluster)
- turn the key to the "ON" position (where all the electronics turn on / do not start the Jeep, just turn it to "ON" three times...

ON / OFF / ON / OFF / ON
- Check odometer and note the Pxxxx codes showed there.

Additionally, if you have some Autozone or Autoshop early, they could make this job for free (sometimes) with OBD Scanner Reader Tool..

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I changed the a/c filter and have been trying to reset the light which says a/c filter change required but it won't reset. Can't understand why because I press reset as soon as it comes up...

All those lights etc on the right side of your dash
are not tied to anything

You don't have to change anything
or do anything. Oil,Cabin Filter etc

THEY ARE JUST GADGETS

Status does cycle
You press Reset & hold

When it says to hold, you
quickly press & hold Reset again

You can just forget all that

Doesn't do anything

You don't sit in your car &
call it up with the status button
& watch it anyway.

Brake Fluid-every 2 years --Flush/All Vehicles
Spark Plugs -- every 3 years,not over 60,000 miles
Fuel Filter --every 3 years
Air Filter --every 3 years
Cabin Filter --every 3 years
Trans & Power Steering--3 years
not over 30,000 miles--EVER on any vehicle

My daughter's '97 Honda Accord has a "maintenance required" light on the dash that's in the red. Does this mean there's something serious wrong? Or just scheduled maintenance is overdue? The milage is...

It just means it time to change your oil. If it has been changed recently and you just want to shut your light off just hold down the trip reset button. While holding it down turn the ignition on but do not start the engine. keep holding the button down for approx. 10 secs. the light should start flashing and then go out. then release the trip reset button and turn the ignition off. and the light will be reset.
