Im guessing its a stick check clutch disk or throw out bearing for the noise if auto im not sure and the over rev could be the computer compensating for something.

Jeep 360 rattle sound at idle in park

it could be a wrist pin, and im not sure if those amc's had hydraulic lifters but sometimes with old lifters when the oil pressure is lower at an idle the lifters arnt filling up all the way so they develope a little valve lash, and when the rpms are raised the oil pressure raises and fills the lifters. you could try chasing the noise down with an automotive stethoscope.

When i shut off my 96 jeep cherokee sport there is a loud rattling sound coming from underneath, around back seat area

it could be a broken exhaust pipe bracket you will need to get underneath or put vehicle up on a hoist so as you can have a good look to see what the problem is.....hope this helps....cheers.

Have a rattle when car is idling. have been told it is the torque converter. box works fine

Hope this saves you a heap of dollars.Nearly all jeeps get a rattle from the cat/converter in the exhaust pipe.Crawl underneath when the motor is cool and give it a few good might hear it rattle.Other than that,if you bring the revs up and it stops,it is the cat/conv.The internals of the cat. fall apart and rattle around at idle. When the revs pickup, the exhaustflow keeps the internals from moving around.I have seen this very often.I hope this is your problem and not the trans.Hope this helps

1995 wrangler ..... gas gauge and temp gauge wont work...also engine seems to run fine but when you turn it off it rattles sounds like change rattling a idea????

There might be a bad fuse for the gauges. I believe the fusebox is in or behind the glovebox. The rattling maybe a heatsheild underneath, or maybe a loose clamp?

Rattle underneath car when the engine is reved in park and when you let off gas going down the road. What should I look for?

a broken engine mount,,

1.) start car in neutral,, with hood popped you will see the engine move ,,

2.) place in a drive gear and you will see it move as well

3.) do the same in reverse it will move as well,,

thats the signs of a broken engine mount..

When clutch is out, jeep rattles..

this is either the clutch pressure plate or the transmission main shaft rattling due to worn bearings or the pilot bearing is worn out.

My Toyota Mr2 Spyder is rattling

Pound on the catalytic converter, you will probably find your rattle inside, if so, you will need a new one, also check for any loose clamps or rings that have come loose, just pound on your exhaust with the side of your fist, you should find your rattle, or sometimes the heat sheilds above the exhaust come loose.

A rattling noise

I had rattling noises as well (over bumps and when I reved the engine) and it turned out to be the heat shields under the car. I took out 2 heat shields covering the two cats on both sides AND two rusted out dangling rings hanging from the exhaust coupler (have NO clue what they were for)..This has TOTALLY gotten rid of the rattling noise. Good luck!
