How difficult and exactly what is the step by step process of removing and replacing tension struts on a 2008 Dodge Charger V-6 model?

I just did mine on 06 Charger Daytona it was a passenger side I was getting a lot of clunking and creaking noise going over bumps and during acceleration. It is fairly easy. I started by lubricating nuts and bolts it also took a lot of elbow grease. My advice start by unscrewing the bushing bolt where it connects to the frame. Once that's out unscrew the bolt that holds strut on the wheel side use the ball joint puller ( around $20 at Partssource) to pop it out.

Here is a good write up on how to remove and replace your Tension struts. These appear to be easy to DIY, and i am going to follow this right up on my 07 Charger since the suspension for the 300/Magnum/Chargers are the same.. Dodge/Chrysler did not improve the setup as the years progressed.

Removing struts for 2003 lexus ls430

Most of the autoparts stores have the spring compressor you'll need. Front & rear have a thru bolt on the bottom, then the strut is secured by one nut at the top into the strut mount which should have a few nuts you have to remove.

The dangerous part is the coil spring that has to be removed. It will shoot off of the strut if you remove the one large nut on the top of the threaded strut rod.

This could really hurt someone!!! The pressure on the spring must be removed, before removing that nut and that's done after the strut assy. is off of the car!

You need to remove it completely with the strut mount, leaving the spring installed. Then, following the safety instructions for using a coil spring compressor, you can remove the spring and transfer the reusable parts to the new strut and reinstall. Leave the spring compressed and just go from the one it's mounted on, to the new one and put it in the exact same position. Look at where the spring is before dissasembly on the old strut.

I suggest a manual, there are details, like making sure the spring is turned properly to fit as it did before removal. Removing pressure on the suspension to be able to savely remove the strut without it binding & such.

I've done a complete car myself in a few hours, but I have all of the tools. Sometimes it's difficult without a HD Impact wrench, to get these parts to break loose, especially the nut on top of the threaded strut rod. A pipe wrench can be used to hold the rod on the old part, since it won't be used again and that will secure the rod as you loosen the top nut.

Be careful, follow the instructions in your repair manual. If you don't have one and you're attempting this type of work, you may want to spend a few $$$ just to have illustrated instructions right there for every step. If you know your cars, have a decent set of mechanics tools and the special equipment required for this task, it's not a difficult job.

I have 06 daytona with same problem clunking noise front passinger side Master Mechanic's checked steering and suspension components could not find the source. Problem is that sometimes noise stops then comes back. I will try to find the source myself tomorrow let you know what I find.

How to chnge control arm bushing on 1994 dodge intrepid

Here are the instruction on how to replace your control arm bushing. please not that there is a special tool needed that you will need to get from you auto parts retailer. you can usually rent these tools.
    1. Turn the control arm over in the arbor press, then position the arm so that it is supported by the receiver tool MB-990799 as shown.
  1. Position the new bushing into the control arm so it is square with the bushing hole. Position the installer tool MB-6644-1 or equivalent on top of the bushing, with the bushing setting in the recessed area of the installer tool. Press the bushing into the control arm.
  2. Press the control arm bushing into the control arm until the installer tool squarely bottoms against the surface of the control arm. When the installer tool squarely bottoms on the control arm, the bushing is installed in the arm in the correct position.
  3. Install the tension strut into the strut bushing in the control arm. Position the tension strut in the control arm with the word FRONT stamped in the tension strut positioned away from the control arm. With an open end wrench on the flat of the tension strut to stop the tension strut from turning. Tighten the NEW tension strut-to-control arm retaining nut to 110 ft. lbs. (150 Nm).
  4. Install the lower control arm and tension strut back onto the vehicle. Refer to the Lower Control Arm procedure earlier in this section.

Control Arm-to-Tension Strut Bushing
To replace the control arm tension strut bushing, the control arm and tension strut assembly must be removed. The removal of the bushing requires the use of an arbor press.
  1. Thoroughly lubricate the replacement tension strut bushing, control arm and installer tool 6644-3 or equivalent with a silicone lubricant.
  2. By hand, install the tension strut bushing into the large end of the installer tool. Press the bushing into the installer tool as far as it will go by hand.
  3. Position the control arm in the arbor press so that the tension strut hole in the control arm is centered on the receiver tool MB-990799 or equivalent. Position the installer tool with the previously installed bushing, inside of the tension strut bushing hole in the control arm. Position the installer tool on top of the tension strut bushing. Using the arbor press, press the tension strut bushing into the control arm. As the bushing is being pressed into the arm, a pop will be heard. When the pop is heard, the installer tool will slightly move up off the control arm. At this time remove the control arm assembly from the press and pull the tool MB-6644-3 off of the tension strut bushing in the control arm.

Unable to remove strut with lower arm in place and driveshaft connected to hub.Ifollowed Haynes Golf manual procedure but found space too tight to remove strut even with spring compressed.Eventually...

The swaybar is still giving you tension. The link has to be disconnected to the control arm. You need to disconnect the balljoint for the tie rod. Before removing the lower ball joint from the hub assembly, mark with a punch for reference when putting it back. There is no need to remove the center nut for CV joint unless it is the original strut which is longer when in static position. Note; DO NOT roll vehicle on the ground without a CV joint connected to the hub, wheel bearing will be crushed from vehicle weight.

You can use a 1/4" extension end placed on the slot to spread the strut carrier wide enough to release the strut from the carrier.

Actually you have struts. These require a technition as the struts are where the alignment are adjusted. To remove them will destroy your alignment, and this will result in tire wear, and poor handling. The removal process isn't that difficult however. The wheel has to come off, then you have to remove the calipers then the nuts that are on the bracket holding the strut in place. The assembly will drop at this point. Remove the top-nut and allow the assembly to fall the rest of the way. Then you can remove the bottom end from the A-arm or lower control arm. Reverse the process to reinstall. You can TRY to get the bracket around the strut to go back EXACTLY where it was to drive the car, but the alignment IS going to be off at this point. you will need another person to assist you. A "normal" coil spring compressor won't usually work on struts. A strut compressor works from both ends of the assembly. You can remove the entire strut and spring without removing the spring, then you place it into the compressor, increase tension just a bit and remove the top bearing and mount plate , relieve the tension, remove the strut and reverse the procedure to re-assemble it.
