Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Cavalier with 182,000 miles on it. It still runs great, but lately when driving at highway or interstate speeds it cuts out. It doesn't die, just jerks a little. The RPM and the speedometer just pulse. I have also been having trouble starting it, turn the key and nothing happens. If you keep trying it will eventually start. I have had it to a garage several times and they don't know what to do to fix it. Please help! Had a complete tune-up & crank sensor replaced in the past few weeks. Check engine light is on the code is Evap leak or loose gas cap.

U will need to have the electronic engine control system checked for fault code(s), chances are u have a problem that is related to the electronic ignition system, most likely the Crankshaft Position Sensor, so have the codes run, Kragen and Autozone parts do this test for free as well as Aamco transmission.

Thats possible. A torque converter going bad would give you the same feeling as slipping the clutch on a manual shift.
Could also be the pump in the trans, or blockage in the valve body.
You did drive the truck for a couple of days before taking it on the highway ? And change the fluid in the trans ?

2002 cavalier No Crank Stopped, Ignition Switch?

Check your alternator. The easiest way to do it is to start the car, and remove your negative battery cable. If the car turns off, your alternator is bad.

The PO 316 is still misfires om first 1000 revolutions
so the shop did a poor job for you on resolveing the
cylinder misfires

Try a diffferent shop

Have to clean the MAF Sensor & replace upstream
oxygen sensors if over 100,000 miles

Need the correct oem spark spark plugs/any brand

No reason the gas filter should be clogged unless it was in
the car for 10 years

Fuel pressure should be checked

Need to check for cylinder misfires on a road test of 20
miles or more with professional software in Mode#06

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Z24 Cavalier, It has 241,000 miles on it. It runs great and I haven't had to fix much on it. Just lately it started missing when you accelerate to speed up fast or go up a hill in...

Normally the first thing that would cause a miss like that (under load in a tall gear) is a secondary ignition miss, usually caused by a plug wire, or possibly a distributor cap or rotor-have these been replaced in the last 30,000 miles? If not, I would do them first. If it still happens, you might then change the fuel filter, clean the throttle body and Mass Air Flow sensor, and replace the air filter-that's a complete tuneup, it should last you another 50,000 plus miles as long as you change the oil religiously and don't overheat it.

Replace fuel filter, then check fuel pressure. Tap on mass air flow sensor while running engine, if it acts up replace it. Check air filter.

Hard Shifting after highway driving (1996 Chevrolet Tahoe)?

converter clutch regulator valve is worn causing line pressure to rise to maximum in turn causing your harsh shifts. Sonax makes a repair kit for it or you can install a stiffer spring to make it work correctly

Hi, Did you notice the motor actually reving higher when the tachometer was reading a higher rpm.. If it was it could be your transmission slipping.. Set your cruise control and listen to your motor while the tachometer starts moving erratically.. Good Luck
