Question about 1986 Suzuki Samurai

1 Answer

I rebuilt my carb on my 87 suzuki samurai and took it to get an emission test. The carbon monoxide readings were high . I was wondering if an unadjusted accellerator pump could be to blame or should I be looking somewhere else? Do you know where I could find the procedure for that?

1987 Samurai idles fine. Above idle goes lean, runs rough, mc dwell 0. Rebuilt carb., no change. replaced with rebuilt carb., no change. Timing bounced around when engine running bad, replaced dist....

87 has no ECU. so must be an engine swap to a 89 or newer tracker
or last sammi that did have EFI.
you said EFI and Carb in same paragraph and that is a contradiction.
post to my bbs for more help.
http://www.fixkick.com/bbs/

post a link to a photo of your engine, many sammy cars have a newer engine and EFI added. no matter we can fix it, but you need to learn whats under the hood first, photos rule in this word.

I have a 1987 suzuki samurai and have white smoke coming from exhaust looked on dipstik and see no signs of antifreeze was told that it could be the timing belt cover leaking that doesent make sense to me...

Are you losing coolant? If so then you could have a cracked head on the exhaust side and it is leaking coolant into the exhaust and being burnt.

you can have this rebuilt but the problem is finding someone to do the work because it not just something any body can do and the cost of having this done is expensive

Ford Mondeo failed its MOT exhaust emisson test

The advice that the garage gave you seems right. If any bushes were worn they would show up on the MOT Test. Try taking it to another garage to check out the Cat for your peace of mind.

1986 camaro emissions problem- 6 cylinder stick

high hydrocarbons indicates head gasket(1 or both) leaking , carbon monoxide is a worn out catylitic convertor which both could lead to the oxy sensor getting a false reading
