Question about 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Mercedes E320 the check egine light came on twice and both times it was for the ox sensor. We have replaced all the sensors and the light came back on. After a scan it is saying that the 2 rear sensors are not working. Is it possible that the sensors are defective or could it be somthing else. The care runs fine

I will have the garage vheck the things you mentioned. The sensors were not Bosch but the universal type so it might be a mater of getting new ones. Is there a way to check is the are wroking properly?

Fault location: Oxygen sensors (O2S) #2, bank 1 (bank placed on right side of the car), and bank 2 (bank placed on left side of the car) - range / performance.
Probable cause: Intake / exhaust leaks, fuel pressure, injectors, bad wiring, bad oxygen sensors plug connexions, bad oxygen sensors (O2S).
So, check first engine air intake system for leaks, fuel pressure - replace fuel filter if necessasy, injectors, exhaust pipes & catalytic converters for leaks, oxygen sensors wiring & plug connexions.
Could be also bad oxygen sensors. Verify if oxygen sensors replaced part number is the same as the original !!!

Yes, but this oxygen sensors checking procedure needs a diagnostic scantool equiped with an oscilloscope. Sometimes universal type oxygen sensors are not correctly seted with engine requirements! I recommend you original type Bosch sensors.

The oxygen sensor is one of the only sensors that can indicate a problem without a failure in the sensor. Most all of the other sensors on the vehicle either work or they don't, and a "Check Engine" light with a corresponding code for that sensor usually means a failure.

  • An oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust system in real time. Too much oxygen in the exhaust gives a signal for a mixture that is too lean, and the reverse for too little oxygen. Any time that the sensor indicates one of these conditions, the "Check Engine" light will come on and produce a code (for example--oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 2: O2-B1-S2). It will say "Out of Range." Before a definitive answer can be given as to the functioning of the sensor, the engine management system should be checked first. This will include the ignition system, from crank sensor to spark plug, and everything in between--the throttle body for coking, PCV valve, air cleaner, fuel injectors, timing, coolant temperature, fuel pressure, valve timing, vacuum leaks and the emission system as well. If all of this is up to par, it's a safe bet the sensor is faulty.
  • There are some basic tools needed to complete this job. You will also need a special 7/8-inch oxygen sensor socket with a relief for the electrical harness, and an OBD code reader.
  • Connect the code reader to the OBD II port under the driver's side dash and turn the key to the "On" position with the engine off. Push the button for READ, and the code reader will interrogate the computer and render a code. Cross-reference the code with the interpretation of the code on the sheet that came with the tool. It will say which sensor is bad. Most Mercedes have four sensors, so the correct one is essential.
  • Turn off the key, raise the car and support it with jack stands. Disconnect the proper oxygen sensor wiring harness connector. Use either the wrench or the socket, whichever one fits best, and remove the sensor. Before installing the new sensor, put some anti-seize on the threads so it will come out in the future. Install the oxygen sensor and connect the wiring harness. Lower the car and turn the key once more to the "On" position. This time, push the "Clear Codes" button on the code reader and it will reset itself and turn off the engine light.

    Check Egine Light Stays On

Well if the sensors are defective the garage should warranty them, unless they are aftermarket products
then the warranty isn't so great.
If the shop that did the work determines that the sensors are a-ok then there may be a problem with the ECU or the circuit.

    99 mercedes e320.check engine light on.po341

that appears to be a camshaft position sensor performance code. you can start by checking to see if the sensor is working properly, re-check and make sure that the harness is ok by checking the resistance through the harness if all looks well there make sure the computer has the latest software on it by having it scanned at your local dealer. also you can check the reluctor wheel on the camshaft for damage or debris in the way of the sensor.

    hope this helps!

Turning off brake pad warning light after changing pads on S320 merc.

If the light came on before you changed pads, you will need to replace the sensor.
The sensor consists of only a wire link embedded in a hard plastic. This is worn through when the pads are nearly worn out.

To check which sensor it is, it's easier to unplug the sensor, and check with a continuity checker. If there is no continuity, you need to replace it.

Thanks for using Fixya! If this solves the problem, please rate as such. Thank you.
