SOURCE: emergency brake

I did the same thing a couple of months ago. You can release it manually by reaching under the E-brake pedal and pulling the metal piece (don't know what its called) towards you to release the pedal...hard to describe, but feel around under the pedal and there is a thin metal piece attached that will disengage the brake if shifted....I did it myself when my handle broke off in the store parking lot.

Brake realese cable broke from inside vehicle how do i unlock the emergency brakes

You will need to get underneath the vehicle and loosen the emergency brake adjuster to relieve the tension on the cables. Bear in mind that untill you replace the broken cable and readjust the emergency brake, you will have no emergency brakes.

I had an emergency brake cable snap somewhere (emergency brake cable goes to floor with no resistance). How do I tell where the broken cable is?

The cable runs under the car on the drivers side. if it broke under there it would be hanging down some. Most likely it broke at the foot pedal. There is a metal stud that is molded on the end of the cable and is prong to break first.

1998 Chevy S10 Pickup - Emergency Brake is stuck. How do I repair?

Your emergency break has a cable. I would say the cable is broke, in the lock position. I don't know the specifics, but the cable is probably broke.

My emergency brake cable broke with the brake engaged. how do i disengage it so i can get to a garage?

If the emergency brake cable broke, then the brake should disengage by itself, unless there is rust in the braking system preventing it from doing so.

An engaged brake needs tension on the cable to continue to hold the vehicle still.

You could have it towed by a flat bed that slowly draws the car up onto its flat bed, even if the brakes or park was engaged. Allow the tow truck operator to worry about this problem.

Good luck on getting your vehicle to the garage.

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 brake release cable broke and won't release the emergency brake. I checked the brake release handle and cable and discovered a small nut like metal piece on the floor below...

Same thing happened to me on my 2000 silverado July 3, 2009.
There is a release next to the parking brake pedal. You have to reach way under the dash but it has worked for me for the last month. I have the part to fix it but haven't had the time.
