Its easy just take of the distributor cap off without removing the cables. The cap should come off easily with three little screws. Once u have done that place it aside and the distributor has three main bolts they are size 14mm. Once u have done that the distributor should slide out of the engine, just make sure u look at how the angle of the distributor is assembled in the camshaft before putting in the new distributor.

SOURCE: My distributor is out 96 Honda Civic LX. How hard

Why do you think the Distributor is out? It's not hard to replace if you have the Haynes repair manual for your vehicle and understand how to get to TDC and line up everything. But it is very rare that a Distributor goes out. If it is not turning it is more likely that your timing Belt has broken than the distributor going bad.

No your alternator is not longer working correctly. It could be as simple as a broken alternator drive belt. Open the hood an see if you see any naked pulleys. If the belt is in place then you most likely with have bad alternator. NAPA and Autozone have stores that can test your old alternator. Con comeone into removing it and have it tested. If it is bad get a REBUILT one. A new one will cost a small fortune!

Timing 92 civic

You can't turn that distributor enough to make it not start. Full advance would be counter clockwise to the stops and Full ****** the other way. If it helps, just clamp it up halfway between the stops and you won't be far off. I think you may have another infamous Honda starting glitch.

92 Honda Civic after short run fails to start

The two most common things are the pgmfi (fuel injection) relay, and the distributors. Replace the relay first, not too expensive and a new one is peace of mind, if that doesn't fix it, my money would be on the distributor. The relay is a rectangular (1"x1"x2") box bolted way up under the drivers side dashboard. It will say "Mitsuba" on it.
