Basic setting can be restored using a suitable scan tool and following the manufacturers instructions or by using procedure outlined below. In earlier case, the kickdown switch on the accelerator cable must function properly.

  1. Switch on ignition but do not start the engine
  2. Push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there for a min of 5 seconds NOTE: Be sure floor the floor mats do not prevent the accelerator pedal from being completely depressed.
  3. Release the accelerator pedal and switch off the ignition

Check engine light is on? if yes, You need an OBD scanner to dianose the problem. if no, its a mechanical problem. 1st, check if their is a vacuum leaks using the carburator cleaner to spray all over the emission, carburator, the vacuum lines if the idle going up you found the leak, now if still don't work, check if the fuel injector if not failing, check also the fuel filter and cracks on the exchaust manifold.

If the engine light is blinking you have major issues with the vehicle. Have scanned at autozone or similar for codes this will give you a idea what is wrong. Then get back to me when you have codes

Jerking accelerating

This may be normal but you can adjust your driving to reduce the impact. To speed up the warm up process of the catalytic converters, the power train computer holds first gear a little longer than normal. This causes your car to get higher in the rpm range than normal, at part throttle, which causes the hard shift. On your first drive, try NOT to accelerate while the car is in first gear--it won't take long for you to learn how far this is.

I have a similar problem...when at a stop it jerks in hesitation sometime feeling as if it wants to stall. It also does this when accelerating from stop...it has completely stalled out once when accelerating after switching from reverse to drive, but started right away.

1999 Toyota Camry: Transmission issue: When it changes from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd, it jerks. Is my trans about to go out or what?

after checking fluid level,as per the book, the only reason to be jerky is a harsh driving style(small engine/big car).try stopping, then without using the gas let the car accelerate to top gear, then try 1/2 throttle, again from stop,to see the difference between gear changes......you will see what i mean ..

Ford Contour (2.5 V6 manual) jerks badly with throttle modulation

Check the lower motor mount near the drivers side. This usually is a problem with these cars. It costs about 140.00 or so depending where you reside. Also check the passenger side hanger bearing on the CV shaft if this is loose it will cause jerking too.
