As the clutch is 3 parts and you dont want to take the gearbox down every time to replace a bit, best replace the bearing/friction plate and pressure plate at same time(much cheaper too...less labour costs)

I am having to slam my cltch pedal to the floor to get it to start

lay on the drivers side floor board and you will see there is a switch on the brake peddle... That is the brake light switch..
Now look next to it on the clutch peddel... that is the possative clutch diseguagement switch... You will want to adjust that so it is closer to the peddel...

I have a 1996 ford f-150 and my clutch just sticks to the floor. It doesnt retract.

Check the clutch fluid, under the hood on the firewall, if the fluid is low then you need to inspect the for a leak. This could be a leaking slave cylinder which is located internal of the trans bellhousing, if you see any dampness this would indicate a slave cylinder leak. Replacement of the slave , line , and the master cylinder will be required. The slave and master have been updated and require all three to be replaced. My clutch disengages very inconsistently, sometimes working perfectly then for no apparent reason, not disengaging very well at all even though the clutch pedal is to the floor. I have replaced and bled...

This sounds outrages for the hydralics, price the clutch set at the auto parts store, then ask how much in labor cost to see what it actually cost, but yes the clutch is the most likely problem.

1996 f250 5 speed manual. Clutch must be to the floor before I can get it into gear. Is this normal?

No, your clutch is controlled by a slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder. Check your clutch master cylinders fluid level first, if its high, your clutch is starting to wear down. Next, on the bottom of your transmission there will be an inspection cover, remove and check with a suitable flashlight if the clutch slave cylinder is leaking, if so, replace both clutch master cylinder and cslave cylinder. Stay away from slave cylinders that you have to build yourself such as those at autozone! Bleeding of these components will be required.
