Question about 1994 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

My 1994 Gmc Sierra 2500 loses all but 1st gear when it gets warmed up and shifts hard just before it happens. I'm tired of taking it to mechanics and telling me its fixed and I drive it for a month and it keeps happening.

1994 GMC 1500 Sierra has to rev up 1st gear and let off to get to shift from 1st to 3rd gear. Had tranny rebuilt. Could problem be solved by changing the ECM Engine Control Module or Transmission...

If reverse is ok then you have a bad shift solenoid b.There are two solenoids on the back of the valve body that are identical,it will be the one on the pasenger side.GM calls them the 1-2 and 2-3 shift solenoid but this is deceptive because it takes a combination of them being on or off to achieve every gear.Pull the pan, disconnect solenoids and check resistance across them with a volt meter.I think you are looking for less than 20 ohms but the bad one will be off the chart.Bad transmission controllers are very rare in a GM vehicle.I bet if you have codes pulled you will find a shift solenoid code.Good luck!

I have a 1992 Gmc sierra manual transmission, the gears are hard

It is an adjustment or clutch replacenment issue. Manual transmissions rarely have a lube issue unless you have seen a big puddle of very thick oil in the driveway.

I think I'd be looking at the clutch of this 16 year old vehicle. Unless you have the tools, time and skill to change the clutch, this is probably a job better left to a professional. Adjusting the clutch mechanism might help for a while but I think you will soon need a clutch job on your GMC.

My 1994 GMC 2500 diesel won't shift out of 1st gear. Mechanic last year fixed it by resetting the transmission? How is this done?

you need a computer to communicate with the transmission to reset it. and the one auto zone has doesn't have the capabilities to do it. so a local shop would.

you can also try to disconnect the battery for a half hour or so and you will hard reset it. but that is about all you can do as a consumer. good luck

I have a 94 gmc sierra with 350 that has problem shifting to 2nd

Your problem likely resides with the hydraulic valve that operates the band for second gear, or lack of hydraulic pressure in the transmission. If the actuator in the transmission that operates second gear is getting sticky, then it will cause this. A filter change and flush may help, but it's likely time to start looking for someone to tear down your transmission, or replace it.

89 gmc sierra screwed up while driving

Sounds like you may have broken your timing chain. Try doing a compression test. You should get pressures no less than 90-100 psi. If you find extremely low pressures, you probably lost the chain. This could have caused valve train problems. Good luck
