Turn on headlites and windshield wipers do they work? if they do then the battery is not the problem,,unless you been trying to start it a lot and drained down the battery..get a jump from someone AAA. if the car makes a clicking noise when you try and start it then the battery is drained . if you get a jump and it still wont start then the starter is bad... rap on the solenoid on top of the starter, with a piece of wood, while someone tries to start it, and usually i"ll start one time for you, don't shut it off or you'll be stranded again.

Car randomly wont turn on/bogs down and dies

Could be a bad engine ground connection. There should be a cable connected between the engine block and the frame. If this is loose, it could cause intermittent failure of your ignition and your starter to operate properly.

Car wont start

Does the battery have enough capacity to turn over the engine though? Even flat car batteries will still power the radio. The best way would be to jump start the car uing a set of jumper leads. If it starts you know it is the battery that needs replacing.

If it still wont turn over then it is most likely the solenoid in your starter motor. You can often tap the starter motor with a hammer and free the solenoid as a temporary fix. The starter motor is loacted at the back of the engine on the bell housing if rear wheel drive, or around the tranmission if a front wheel drive.
