Question about 2000 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

2000 Kia Sportage Sputters when brake is pressed. I replaced the valve cover gasket 9 months ago because oil was leaking and it solved the sputter problem, but now it is back again. I've also attempted to adjust the idle but it makes very little difference in the sputtering.

Kia sportage 2000 no acceleration

It is important too identify the following:
1) The source of the exhaust leak
2) The source of the oil leak.
The exhaust leak could turn out to be a bad exhaust gasket, a cracked or loose exhaust manifold, a cracked cylinder head or bad gasket, or related parts. The oil leak could turn out to be the valve cover gasket. A dried out valve cover gasket can cause oil to sit on the spark plugs and have oil leaks. Be sure not to over-fill the oil. A machine shop can find cracks in cylinder heads. If these problems turn out to be ok (and one of those stethoscopes may be helpful) then you could procede to check fuel delivery. (there will be pressure in the lines) A lot of times connectors get corroded. I noticed on this model the sensor for the engine cooling mounted near the thermostat is very sensitive to variation. Same for the air sensors if left loose.

When I removed #4 sparkplug there is oil on sparkplug hole on a 2000 Kia sportage

If oil is on the spark plug tip then it could be from worn valve stems or from worn piston rings. When you accelerate away from the traffic lights and the engine blows a lot of greyish smoke then this is a sign of worn parts.
If the oil is leaking into the spark plug hole, then it could be leaking from the tappet cover, either the tappet cover bolts are loose or the tappet cover gasket is faulty.

Why is oil in sparkplug wells?

there are o-rings that are under the valve cover that seal the valve cover to the cylinder head, they are leaking and allowing oil to leak from under the valve cover into the spark plug wells, all you need to do is replace the valve cover gaskets and wa-la the oil problem will be fixed.....good luck

My 2000 kia sportage has no power and I think a vaccuum leak somewhere around the canister or canister close valve. I can rev to 1500rpms but after that it sputters out and will die. What can I do? colud...

replace the fuel filter and and if its be a while replace the spark plug also and you are right check all of the vaccum lines as well give these websites a try and if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your baby SUV wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Engine light is on,the engine shakes/sputters but doesn't die(seems to want to though)especially when speed reaches 45 or over.changed spark plugs, found oil in that area(?)have began to smell gas(?) inside...

Had one of these a while ago in all honesty there not good vehicles thats being polite. How much oil was there? was it around the plugs or on the electrode part of the plug inside the head? if on the plug end then the valve stem oil seals have gone so you would need to take the head off and take the valves out fit the seals and then regrind the valves back correctly. Most likely it will cost about £450 as you will need a head gasket and bolts etc etc cam belt. thats if it is the valve stem oil seals.
