1992 ford explorer, parked at night and next day would not go for

1992 ford explorer, parked at night and next day would not move forward. Reverse works fine and 4x4 push buttons won't work. Is this electrical, a cylinoid or is the tranny shot? Please help, this is my daughters car and I do okay at simple repairs but am not a mechanic.

how far have you move it in reverse? sometimes the brakes lock up/rust and prevent it from moving forward but will allow it to move backward. Make sure the e-brake is released

Check transmission fluid level! warm it up and run it through all the different positions from park to first... do this a couple of times... check the level now in park while running! if low add half bottles of tranny fluid at a time "dont" over fill it. now repeat the selection process again in all different positions. if the level is good... then you may have to take it to a shop and have it looked at.

20001 vw jetta tdi automatic transmission problem

Ok , so you got home , parked it and when you started it up the next day and shifted it into reverse... backed out... and went to shift into drive , it stayed in reverse ?
Have you checked to see that the cable has not disjoined itself from the shifter to the trans.?
Are you able to engage Park?

Transmission when put in reverse goes forward instead

99% chance it's linkage cable slipped or gotten loose,or maybe you hit something?
Be CAREFUL in this situation that you always end up in PARK and with the emergency brake on.don-ohio

1992 Ford Explorer transmission will not go in reverse. Forward works fine. Any solutions?

No reverse is almost always an internal problem (no external fix), and is usually a problem with the reverse drive shell, such as stripped splines.

DIsconnext and reconnect the linkage at the transmission. You may want top replace the linkage cable all together. Make sure you set the parking break and block the tires

Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.
