Problem with the power windows

I'm having a problem with the power windows. How do you determine if its a short in the wiring or a need to replace the circut breaker? They are getting stuck either all the way down or all the way up. What do I do first? If it is the circut breaker how do I get it out? Does it just pull out?

First off cars dont have circuit breakers, if the fuse is blown the circuit is stone dead until replaced.

I have been experiencing a problem with my R/f window using the passenger window switch, it always works from the master (driver) swith, i noticed that if i tap the master switch it will sometimes allow the passenger side to work, i have not yet made any repair attempts but i intend to start by replacing the master switch.

I have heard of similar issues in other Cherokees.

First check the windows fuse, if this is blow (position 12, 50AMP), replace it...

If not, check the motor wires (Windows Diagrams 8W 60-1) in your Jeep WJ Repair Manual (this is in spanish, but the diagrams are easy to read).

There is a circuit breaker for power windows .
Power Window System Components
The power window system consists of the following components:
Driver Door Switch (DDS)

Passenger Door Switch (PDS)

Body Control Module (BCM)

Rear door power window switches

Power window motors in each of the doors

PWR WDO Circuit Breaker

Power Window System Controls
The power window system will operate anytime the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) system is active or when the ignition switch is in the ACCY or ON position.
The driver master control switches are integrated into the DDS. When a power window switch is activated in the up or down positions the DDS supplies power and ground to the window motor control circuits to drive the window motor in the required direction. Prior to activating a power window motor the DDS will supply the control circuit with a low current bias voltage in order to determine that a short to ground condition does not exist and during window motor operation the DDS continues to monitor the motor current to verify proper window motor operation.
The DDS controls the passenger window by a serial message to the PDS. When a power window switch is activated in the up or down positions the PDS supplies power and ground to the window motor control circuits to drive the window motor in the required direction. Prior to activating a power window motor the PDS will supply the control circuit with a low current bias voltage in order to determine that a short to ground condition does not exist, and during window motor operation the PDS continues to monitor the motor current to verify proper window motor operation. Check this circuit breaker
RETAINED ACCSRY PRW BRKR 30 amp. located in the left instrument panel fuse box . if the breaker is good check power B+ at the drivers door switch . connector 1 terminal b yellow wire . Sometimes the wires inside the rubber boot coming from body to door break .

Does a 1987 gmcjimmy s-15 have a power window relay ot any relays at all cuz my power windows stoped working it runs a 30 amp circut breaker can the circut breaker go bad?

Anything can go bad, but to my knowledge circuit breakers seldom do. If you have a test light, pull the circuit breaker and probe both terminals for a power signal, with the key on. One terminal should show voltage with key on. If not, check the power distribution box for a blown maxi-fuse, or the wiring from that box to your fuse panel.
BTW, no, no relays are in the window circuit. So if the circuit breaker has power to it, put it back in and check for power on the driver's door master switch-one wire on the master should have voltage with key on. If no hot wire to the master switch, check inside the door openings for a broken wire. If you do have one hot wire there. check the power windows ground-the ground wire for the power windows originates at the master switch and goes back into the cabin to a nearby ground. Put one lead of the test light on the hot wire (key on), and probe the ground terminal at the master switch-if your ground is good, the test light will light up. If the ground is lost, no light. Check for a broken ground wire in the door opening, and/or find the ground and see if it is bad. If the master switch has a hot wire and a good ground wire, replace the master switch.

Power Windows and Turn Signals Not Working - 15A Fuse keeps blowing

If a fuse keeps on blowing there is a short in the wireing to that circut, Your best bet is to take it into a auto electric shop to be check out,

New power window switch is not working, don't know where fuse/relay is located

usually the power windows in on a circut breaker fuse. if it blows it resets its self after cooling down. use a test light to see if you have power on any of the wires on the back of the switch. if you have power chances are you have a bad motor for the window. asuming that you replaced the front drivers side switch. if that wasn't the one you replaced say the back pass side switch odds are its the drivers side front set of switches bad. hope this helps you.

Power window stopped working in Ford Explorer 1995 model

In the power distribution box, in the engine compartment,WHICH IS LIVE -
breaker for the 4 power windows ( at least on the 4 door there is ) The circuit
breaker is supposed to reset itself, but some breakers need to be reset manually

Check to determine if you are getting power to motor
Could be bad switch, motor or open wire most likely in the door jamb area
Try slamming door with ignition on holding switch

or replaced when they malfunction. It is in location # 62.

Circut breaker for the Power locks ,remote and power drivers seat

Try unplugging the power to the seat, and see if the locks will work and the breaker cools off. If not, you may have a short in the door jam where all your wires go through.

On my 1995 Grandejeep cherokee the electrical system is not working, something is draining the battery,and cannot find what is causing it. the power windows will not work,

Although time consuming, still the easiest way to find your problem is to pull each fuse, till the draw disappears. If you don't have a volt meter, you can pull one fuse (or circut breaker) at a time and wait to see if battery has remained charged during the time it would normally take to become discharged. This will put you on the right track, at which point you need to determine exactly what system(s) that fuse serves, then test each of those components and their controls, modules etc.In your case, since you already are having a window problem, I would pull that breaker first. Pull large fuses last (such as the one that goes to the alternator, since that circut kills too many sub-systems and will mislead you. Before beginning testing, have the battery checked for proper voltage and also have it "load tested" to make sure it is in good condition, as a defective battery will often appear to have the same symptoms as a system drain! (new, does not mean good, only means new)

Power windows not working

Are power locks working? (I think they are on the same circut) Don't think there is a fuse, most likely there is a circut breaker (small metal rectangle plugged into fuse panel Check your manual for location. There may also be a relay for this. Generally I have found that most problems with Jeep windows begin with a failure in the master switch (Drivers door) Everything else goes through there and makes other switches malfunction. Of course since I said that yours will be different, but take a look there to start. Otherwise get a really good wiring diagram and carefully trace from power source.
