They probably were sloppy in the processand either spilled oil when they were putting it into the motor or got some on the exhaust when they were draining it. Keep an eye on you oil level and if it stays full they smoking should go away quickly. If the company that did it is close take it back in and let them check it out and clean up their mess.

Low oil pressure

Kenny, The Volkswagen 1.8 seem to be prone to oil sludge in these years according to the forums on line. So if sludge is a problem, it could be partial plugged oil pump pickup causing light to flicker, and also may have cause piston rings to wear premature allowing excess oil to pass and show smoke from exhaust. Have engine checked, diagnosed and estimate for repair by a good Tech. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My 2003 volkswagen passat has white/odorless smoke coming from engine when driven. Coming from left side near that huge hose thing.

I'd need to know exactly what the big hose thing is to give you a better diagnoses. But it may be an oil/fluid or water dripping onto the exhaust.

Have a 2003 volkswagen passat 130 4 motion, when starting the engine there is white/ greyish smoke coming out of the exhaust, does not seem to be the head gasket as no signs of this e.g oil and water are...

blue is oil
White is coolant/water It will also smell kind of sweet
black is fuel

If you don't drive your car very many miles or let it sit for days/weeks at a time it is most likely condensation in the exhaust. Take her on a nice 50 mile brisk drive and see if the problem clears up. If it does think condensation if not you will need to dig further.

I purchased a 2003 late 52 plate vw passat 2.0 petrol 130 sport after a few days the oil light came on then i topped it up after two weeks of driving local i found i done a check and found it needed...

from the VW manual........"expect to use about 1 litre for every 500 km."the oil level should be checked every week".........some cars have a breather on the side of the block that needs cleaning every year.(looks like a metal canister about 2.1/2" tall by 4"wide with a hose to the inlet manifold/air cleaner).

Oil leaks in a 2004 VW Passat

assuming car is leaking oil not burning it [blue smoke] look under car and check where oil is coming from if done at a shop should have brought back so correction could be made --if coming from filter area possible wrong filter -cross threaded -loose -or missing/doubled gasket=if coming from pan area drain bolt same -loose -cross threaded-missing gasket-

How do I change the oil on a 2003 Volkswagen Passat?

Yes, you must remove it. The oil pan plug is a BOLT, not a large allen head type screw.

Turbo damage on 2005 Volkswagen Passat

Yes, could be related to oil change, using incorrect oil or low oil level. What color is the smoke?
