when I sometimes start the car with the climate control system ON there is no activity at all. No defroster, no fan, no mode operation, nothing, it is as if the system is TURNED OFF and then all of a sudden the fan comes on and the entire system works just fine. This has been an intermittant issue for the last 2 weeks.

Thanks for the quick response my friend

No coolant has to do with heat. freon has to do with ac. Now when you said your ac AND blower doesnt come on right away are you saying it does this ONLY when its on ac or when its on heat too. I would first change out your coolant level sensor or add coolant (which you said was fine) and see what happens. but im sure they are not in relation as the blower motor is on its own circuit

This is most likely your blower motor or your speed control unit on your blower motor! When the blower motor works does the AC blow cold?

Heater blows out cold air, constantly adding coolant, blower motor just quit working

it sounds like your thermostat is stuck shut..and the antifreeze is getting blown out during operating as you drive it..when replacing this thermostat I have a trick for you to do with it..since the thermostat is basically a mechanical open/close valve..sometimes it screws up and sticks shut..this causes the antifreeze to overheat in the head and blow out of the top tank/hose area on the car(there is an overflow hose there)on the when you go to install the new thermostat.. try drilling 2 small holes at a 90* to the bridge over the actual spring-loaded valve.. these go into the wide flange that surrounds the sides of the thermostat, as close to the center as you can go without going thru the center.. these will be called weepholes..IF there are any hairline cracks in the head(s) these weepholes will allow the air to go thru without dropping the antifreeze levels in the heads..the pressure will bleed off out of the radiator cap.. and your heater will still stay warm..

Blower motor doesn't pump well even the fan switch on high

sounds like blower bearings are dried out and will eventually lock up the blower..sometimes you can spray wd40 in the blower bearings and it will work fine for a while.. also check vacuum controls to the baffle dors in the ductwork..may have some leaks there.. should hear a slight hissing if really bad..repost findings

I have changed the thermostat on my 1996 Olds 88 and have checked the level of the coolant and everything there is in proper order. The blower works in both AC mode and heat mode, when I select cool the...

check the heater inside under the dash and make sure the actuator motor is opening and closing the doors fully on the heater to direct the heat and ac.

My heater isn't do i fix it?

Here's a list of possible culprits:

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect - Antifreeze Needed - Coolant Level Low.
2 Inspect - Heater Control Valve - Leaking or Faulty Heater Control Valve.
3 Inspect - Thermostat - Thermostat Stuck Open.

First thing to check is your engine coolant level - quick and free.
Since your blower works, my nominee for the offending part would be the Heater Control Valve, which redirects hot coolant into the passenger compartment heater core. Without hot coolant, the blower will just blow cold air, since the heater core isn't getting the needed flow of hot coolant through it.
There may also be a fault in the "Temperature Valve Actuators" (there is a right hand and a left hand version of these - one for each side of the car).
The Right hand Temperature Valve Actuator is AC Delco part #15-72971.
The Left hand Temperature Valve Actuator is AC Delco part #15-72972.
Their pictures are available in the online AC Delco Parts Catalog at:

check your coolant level first, if it's within the marks then you need the thermostat replaced.

I heard a nocking noise under the dash board , when u turn the engine on,it sound like is coming from under the ac dos it sometimes.

It sounds like you have air in your cooling system and the knocking noise is coming from your heater core. Check your coolant level and top it off to the full mark in your overflow and try to purge your coolant system to get the air out by inspecting the coolant level before starting the engine up once a day for a week to make sure the level is correct.
Make sure you use a 50/50 mix of dexi cool and water when adding coolant. Makes sure this is done when the engine is cool and not running to ensure you will not get burned by hot coolant.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

What is the check gauges light

CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee electrical problem

Check the center brake light assembly. There are 3 bulbs and if one is out it will give you the bulb out warning. This is frequently missed as if the center bulb is out it is easy to overlook.

Do yourself a favor and replace all 3 when you are there as the dissassembly/assembly is not that easy on 96-98 Grands
