Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante

2 Answers

2001 Mitsubishi Diamante, had corrosion formed on battery terminals causing poor connection, cleaned the terminals and reconnected battery. There is now a CONSTANT high-pitched sound in the cab of the car that never stops. I'm assuming this is some sort of security feature misfunctioning?? The sound is made both when the car is running and when it is off, whether the doors are open or closed, it just keeps going. I unlocked my radio using the code provided by my dealership but the ringing noise is unbearable! What could the problem be? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for replying so quickly! Unfortunately neither of these suggestions has any effect... Do you think that there could be some sort of problem with a fuse??

Set the anti theft, with doors and hood closed, leave it 1 minute, and disarm it,if this does not help, remove battery cable(negative) for 20 seconds and put it back on,see if this will stop the problem.

Try removing the negative battery cable for a split second ,and see if it will solve the problem, but you may have to have the scanner put on the system to see if it can turn the noise off. This sounds like a reset of a module of some sort.

Cool, my dad actually has one of those computers that you connect to the car under the steering wheel. Is the scanner this thing? Sorry, I'm sure this is a totally uneducated question! Thanks in advance.

I have a 1990 Ford f150 the low beam headlights are dim high beam work great but my high beam indicator on the dash is always on

Check out your wiring for the lights, it sounds as if you have a short between the low and main beam circuit. If you have a relay in your system that could well be suspect. Check the ground as a poor ground can create this problem as well. One of the problems with this type of fault is the cause can be anywhere in the electrical circuit and without having the motor in front of you is can be rather difficult to track down.

When try to start lights go on and off, lights flicker, door locks go on and off

Does the van start? If so clean and reconnect your battery terminals, and remove and clean the terminals on all of the relays in the under hood fuse box. Corrosion on terminals can cause many of those types of problems.

My battery terminals keep snapping and I have replaced the postive twice already in two months. What could be causing them to snap in half? They are hard metal so I don't understand.

A poor connection to the battery can melt a cable. Make sure your battery terminal is clean and free from corrosion.Make sure that your battery lead has slack and that it is not taught, especially when the engine is revving.
Make sure you don't over-tighten the soft battery terminal as it will over stress.

My 2001 mitsubishi diamante wont start i think its the terminals but i cant change them without cutting the cable and sodering it onto a new terminal how do i avoid that

There are terminals you can buy that have mechanical connections. Basically clamps that you can use to strip back the wire half an inch or so and clamp to the connector. Or, you could go to the dealer and buy the original replacements for the car. Folloe thw wires down to where they are bolted on. The ground to the engine, and the hot more than likely on the starter.

Car wont start

Assuming power is getting to the starter fine I'd have to guess the starter is worn and may require replacement. I'd investigate the starter motor.
I hope this may have helped,

The electrical system shut down on a 2004 buick rendezvous. What could be the problem?

Weak battery or poor connections at battery terminals. First, remove the positive and negative connectors from your battery. Take a screwdriver and thoroughly clean both the connector and battery terminal (scrape until you see clean metal). If their are signs of corrosion, pour a small amount of Coca Cola on them and continue to scrape with the screwdriver. Reconnect (tighten well) to the battery and try it out. If this doesn't work, you'll need to test your battery. If you don't have a tester, any local mechanic, parts store or service station should perform free of charge.

1993 mits. diamante. The battery was 6 months old and the alternator is brand new. The vehicle just died while i was driving it down the road. The wires were checked with a voltameter and are good. We...

The easiest thing to do is to check the generator. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage across the battery terminals while the car is running. You should get a reading of approximately 14.9 volts which means the gererator is working. With the engine off, check the battery voltage, it should be 12 volts. if it reads less (say 9 or 10 volts), the battery is not holding the charge and needs to be replaced. Also make sure you have good CLEAN TIGHT connections between the battery terminals and the leads. Sometimes a loose connection or oxidation between the terminals and the connector causing a poor connection is to blame.
