I had a 96. These transmissions were not the greatest it sounds like the trans is
losing internal pressue or a clutch in the trans is slipping causing the jumping have a mechanic do a pressure test on you trans.to see if it has the proper pressure for operation

What are the symptoms of a bad throttle position sensor (TPS).

There are a number of things. The car may idle to fast or too slow. The car may have momentary hesitation (jumps/fades) when driving. Most will eventually set a Check Engine code that will point to the TPS. the hesitation one may not though. That usually occurs when you have long commutes at steady speeds. This causes excessive wear of the TPS in one area and can cause intermittent dropouts. If you suspect this, try driving at steady speed 5-10 mpg SLOWER than usual and if the problem goes away that is probably the cause.

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee makes a clicking noise from dash broad as i decrease in speed. Stops once vehicle has slowed down

Have you checked that the speedo and the rev counter still give steady readings, if you can notice a slight "judder " on either then that is where the noise is coming from. Must be one or the other is speed related.

This condition can also be caused by a bad set of sparkplugs and or a bad set of ignition wires, I would change these first and if the problem persist ,,Flush the injectors ..

Sitting at a steady speed on motorway it stutters

If you are travelling at about 55 to 65 mph and it does this then your wheels need balancing its about £7 per wheel and nothing to worry about, but do get it done asap. other thing could be the brakes but its unlikey you would feel it at speed.
