Replace Oil Pump Can it be doen without pulling

No. I had an 01 Windstar. Same thing. It's tied in with the timing. I didn't want to make it someone else's problem. I drove it about a year. Add oil treatment to it with oil changes. My ex needed a vehicle. I gave it to her with full knowledge. 6 years later, she's still driving it.

The reservoirs come with a pump and you will need to remove the pump in order to replace the reservoir. If our going through the trouble to pull it might as well replace it. A low mileage used one from a salvage yard may not be a bad option either.

water hose? its a lot more involved than that. if it needs an oil pump...it needs more than that. have a shop check it out.

On a 1996 3.8 L Should be under the power steering on the block. Looking at the pulleys on the right side just above the oil pan. This would involve removing the pwr steering punp and hoses.

I don't know if a 2003 is different.. You could inspect the area visually to check it.

To get to replace it...
96 - 98 windstar 3.8 oil pressure switch is located under power steering pump. Remove serpentine belt and alternator. Remove PS pump pulley with special puller to get access to PS pump bolts. Drain PS pump and remove PS hoses. Remove PS pump.

you really cant do it properly you have to drop the pan and without th motor being pulled it really just isnt worth the trouble trying . with the motor out you can do it easily plus check or replace rear seals and check for anything else that might not be visible with the motor in the car

if it's a 2wd it's posible to losen the motor mount's and do it from under the truck, i've doen it on my 86 5.0L but if u have a 4x4 u will have to unbolt the tranny to lift the motor hight enough to get to pomp, it's in the front side of the oil pan

Usually this is caused by an Oil Pump that is Goig Bad. If the oil is not Circulating Through the Motor it will Cause the Loss of power and Could cause a Complete Motor Lockup. I would get this Looked into asap.
