    Chekc this procedure to check and adjust a Drive Belt; remember that a drive belt is a critical component of a well-functioning car engine and alternator. An over stretched belt can quickly wear and damage an alternator bearing; a loose belt may slip, become noisy, make the alternator vibrate and wear quickly. It is the alternator’s job to recharge the battery, provide electricity when the engine is running, and adjust voltage output to meet the needs of electrical components around the engine. So you can see how a maladjusted or worn-out drive belt can stop dead your engine in a matter of seconds. The next steps will guide you in a simple but effective way to check and adjust the drive belt if necessary.

    Things You'll Need:
    * Flashlight
    * Notepad and pencil
    * Straightedge
    * Ruler
    * Wrench or ratchet set
    * Pry bar

    1. Find the alternator drive belt at the front or right hand side of the engine compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle.
    2. Slide your fingers along the edges of the drive belt and hard to see areas, trying to feel for cracks and detached plies. Use a flashlight to make a visual inspection as well.
    3. Watch for fraying and shiny spots on the upper and underside of the drive belt which also indicate wear. Twist the belt to see underside areas. All these symptoms are signs of drive belt breakdown and a warning for a prompt replacement.
    4. Look for torn or missing rib sections on serpentine belts-also called V-ribbed belts. Cracks along the ribs are not cause for concern, but missing rib sections 1/2 inch or longer and cracks running parallel to ribs indicate serious wear. Replace the belt.
    5. Check the drive belt tension. Measure the distance--from center to center--between the two pulleys with the largest free span of drivebelt. Write down your measurement in a small notepad.
    6. Place a straightedge atop the longest free span of the drive belt and using a ruler, push the drive belt down around the center of the span.
    7. Write down the deflection reading indicated by the intersection of the straightedge against the ruler.
    8. Compare your numbers. If your measurement from Step 5 was 7 to 11 inches, the belt deflection should be around 1/4 inch. If your measurement from Step 5 was 12 to 16 inches, the belt deflection should be around 1/2 inch.
    9. Adjust the belt tension if your reading is out of specification. Loosen the mounting and adjusting bolts of the alternator with a wrench or ratchet. Using a steel bar, pry on the end frame of the alternator, holding the tension while tightening the adjustment bolt. Check the tension again and tight the mounting bolt when within specification.
    10. Try turning the alternator pulley with your hand. If the drive belt slips, replace it.

    You have two pulleys... one is the driver pulley and the other is the
    driven pulley... now a tensioner pulley goes inbetween those two pulleys
    to put some tension on the belt so when the driven belt starts to turn
    the belt won't start to slip... so it tightens the belt up.

Got squeaky brakes, hey. Or is it chirping? Squeaky brakes are fairly common on vehicles that have all four wheels that are disk. Now, chirping is a different story, it could mean that you will need new disk pads and possible have the rotators turns and if the can't turn the rotators then they need to be replaced. The fuses are extremly hard to remove in my 2005 Avalon is there an easy way other that needle nose pliers

fuses SHOULD BE hard to remove to avoid unwanted movements of your fuse while engine is running / vibrating.

2002 chevy s10 blazer, upper intake manifold. There is a torks bolt on the inside of the manifold that is almost impossible to reach. Is there a trick to getting it out?

I have a 2002 S19 Extreme, and ran into that problem. I used a long air hammer chissle bit to carefully break the nut free. Then used a long angled pair of needle nose plier's to slowly but eventually back the bolt out.

The thermostat is a spring loaded round device that keeps the coolant from flowing long enough for the engine to warm up and then it opens to allow fluid to flow to the radiator.

The serpentine belt is a different issue, but related through the water pump which circulates coolant.

Squeaky sway bar, is it bushing or linkage?

More than likely it is the bushings where the bar mounts to the frame. Pull these out and lubricate them with a silicone based grease and this should solve the trouble.

My Jeep`s front brakes locked. And also in a sharp turn there is a squeaky sound in back of a car. what could be the problem?

is it a constant squeak or intermittent. Pay attention to whats happening to the vehicle when the noise is being made. Brakes need replaced, or squeaky suspension?
