I have had the distributor rotor fail, leaving me stranded - twice. Not sure what can go wrong with them but replacing it was what it took to get it running again.

Fuel pump is bad or plugged fuel filter it seems. Crack the line from the filter leading towards the engine first. If gas starts squirting out fast, you have good pressue. If not the filter is plugged or a bad pump. How old is the fuel filter by chance? If original its plugged up by now

Starts but will not turn over

if your car ever has a problem turning over but not cranking, think of the 3 main things that make an engine run. Fuel, Air, Spark. If your timing belt is shredded that would be a good cause of not getting it to start. check to see if you have spark going into your spark plugs, you can do this by taking out the spark plug boot and sticking a screw driver in it and laying ontop your engine. When you crank it you should see electrical charges surge the screwdriver. For fuel you would need to take out one of your injectors (still on the fuel rail) and see if fuel comes out. If so you are getting fuel. More than likely you are getting air into your system or else you would not have any compression to crank. But in the instance that it has a sensor to read the air this might be the case. I hope this was a little helpful and if you need mroe assistance please let me know.
