Question about 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Auto transmission slips out of gear????

I currently have a propblem where my engine will rev up as if it is totally disconnected from the transmission. It is slipping badly. However, I pull over, turn off the car, wait a minute, start it up, and It runs normally again. Right before this started to happen, my speedometer went haywire. sometimes it works, others not. Using my GPS for a speedometer.

Hi the best thing you should do is have a diagnostic check done as the problem your having could be one of a few problems.

its would be worth getting the auto box fluid changed to rule out low or bad fluid causing the box to slip, how ever the problem could also be your torque converter is on its way out, the torque converter failing gives you the exact same problem you are getting.

the problem is it isnt cheap to replace this part how ever it may be worth you getting a reconditioned box as you would get some warranty and also some cash back for exchange on yours.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

What is the approx.cost to replace or repair a torque converter clutch solenoid

a problem torque clutch solenoid normally will not kill an engine but allow it to rev up as it disconnects the transmission from the engine
I would suggest that you have the fault codes read first to make sure that it is the problem
There is a problem in that if the transmission is disconnected ( same result in selecting drive but car will not move) the engine should not stop or if it dies to low rpms then the solenoid is not the problem but maybe the transmission control module is selecting the wrong gear.
I suggest a proper diagnosis by an accredited service centre or transmission shop specialist before sending money

Audi A4 2.4 Auto. Driving between 1000 and 2000rmp it feels like the gears are slipping, but also the revs just blip up a notch and down again, but above 2000rmp no problem at all changing gears and

The problem is in the transmission . Run the fault codes to check for faulty TCM or servo's and solenoids. Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal leaks. Remove the pan and check filter condition and while the pan is off have the bands and clutch pack adjustment checked

Transmission slip mainly at highway speeds

This does not sound good. It is possibly your O/D direct clutch or O/D brake slipping in the transmission. Seek a couple of specialist opinions.

I replaced the transmission conrtrol module wihtout disconnecting the battery did i ruin the new module

Putting the old module in can help figure it out. However, most modules are fairly sturdy... It would take a good shock to the system to damage it. It is ideally best to disconnect the battery, but many times it's a safety procaution to avoid accidental engine start ups while working on the vehicle (especially with auto start remotes being accidentally pushed)

Auto Transmission problem

hi do the simple bits first check the fliud level in the box see if its a clear redish colour if any other colour you have a box problem second when was the last time you chaged the boxes oil and filter a blocked filter will cause your problem then the box itself first clutch could be slipping put the box in first gear chock your wheels up put the handbrake on put your foot on the brake pedal start the engine and rev with your other foot and see when the car stalls it should be around 2500 and 3000 revs if its higher than this the clutch is slipping on that gear after this you will need to take it for pressure testing yates210456
