Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

The wipers work fine when on. the problem is that when I turn them off they come to stop in the middle of the windshield. when the car is off, if I push the wipers down. when I turn the car on... they pop back up to the middle of the windshield again. it seems to me that the wipers don't know where the bottom of the windshield is. other then when they are on and running even intermittenly they rest at the bottom as normal... but again, when you turn them off... up they come.

You will need to inspect the wiper transmission (this is the part the electric motor turns that swipes the wipers across the window) under the cowl in front of the windshield, it has most likely broken or come loose from link rod or the motor shaft connection came loose.

The intermittent function for the wipers has a variable resistor that controls the timing of the wipers in this mode. Replacement of the wiper switch will resolve this issue. Over time they do become worn, and do not make contact during the entire wiper cycle.

2006 kia wipper works but stops in the middle of the windshield

It sounds like the the circuit board has gone bad and does not know where the base is any more so it will stop at the middle or the windshield. Auto Zone should have a new board if it's replaceable like the GM products. Good luck and hope this helps, In the mean time you can always turn your wipers on and pull the fuse out when it's at the down position so it's not up.

Windshield wipers stuck upright when off

This is a commoon problem with what is called the "Park pawl stop". The tab is most likely bent and needs to be re-aligned, then the wipers need to be re-timed. This re-timing can be a little difficult, although the re-aligning of the tab is failry simple.
