Turn Signal very slow

James ,look for crosion in wires or plug on trailer, and broken wires and yes flasher is replaceable ,they do tend to burn out ,replace with original (OEM) some aftermarket ones (mechanical) type can cause there own problems.

As I understand this question, your towing vehicle starts to sway back and forth at about 60 MPH when you have your trailer attached to the vehicle. If this is correct ... lets move forward. You don't say a word about your trailer but I will assume we are not talking about a small trailer, we are talking about something that weighs more than 3,000 pounds. You don't say anything about the hitch either. I am going to presume you have a weight distributing hitch and I am going to assume you have the proper springs attached and they are adjusted properly. My general comments will apply whether this is a travel trailer or a large utility trailer.

If your load is not properly distributed, you will experience this very dangerous situation. You must have between 60" and 70% of the weight in the front of the trailer wheels. When the trailer is heavy in the end, it wants to swing (the rear actually wants to be in the front. Think how an arrow travels. It is heavy in the front. If you put weight on the back of an arrow and shoot it, the rear will pass the front.)

The only way to stop this dangerous swaying once it starts is to slow the trailer or increase the speed of the tow vehicle. THIS IS A VERY SLIPPERY SLOPE! In an emergency, you would first apply the trailer breaks and gently apply gas until you regain control ... then bring the rig to a stop. NEXT, reload the trailer so 60 to 70 of the weight is at or near the tongue of the trailer.

If you have all the proper weight distribution, you need to check the tension on your torsion springs. You may want to consider dual cam anti sway from Reese. I suggest that if you have not been instructed in proper connection techniques of your very large trailer, go to your local Reese or Valley hitch distributor and have a chat with the technician. It might even be worth $20.00 for the lesson.

Trailer Wiring Diagrams 4 Way Systems

4 way flat molded connectors allow basic hookup for three lighting functions; right turn signal / stop light (green), left turn signal / stop light (yellow), taillight / license / side marker (brown) and a ground (white).

Same as 4 way system listed above but adds a extra blue wire for brake signal or auxiliary power. Used on pop up camper trailers or utility / boat trailers.

6 Way System, Rectangle Plug 3/4 inch by 1 inch 6 way rectangle connectors right turn signal (green), left turn signal (yellow), taillight (brown), ground (white). The red and blue wire can be used for brake control or auxiliary. Use on a small motorcycle trailer, snowmobile trailer or utility trailer. Can also be used as custom wiring on trailers with 3 light/wire systems. See "Tow Vehicle Taillight Wiring" below.

6 Way Systems, Round Plug

Round 1 1/4" diameter metal connector allows 1 or 2 additional wiring and lighting functions such as back up lights, auxiliary 12v power or electric brakes. Note: The black (sometimes red) 12v and blue electric brakes wire may need to be reversed to suit the trailer. Check with a test light or VOM. Uses: horse trailer, travel trailers, landscaping trailer, car trailer, etc.

7 Way Systems

1997 Ford F250HD 7.3 PSD. When i plug in my trailer lights the running lights on the trailer are always on.

The power lead on truck or trailer are in wrong spot. So it is feeding power to your parking lights all the time. Open plug on trailer and move wire one turn counter clockwise.

Trailer brakes not activating very well, I have to have the brake controller turned up to 9.0 to get a good grab on trailer brakes 2005 f250- stock w/ tow command 14'x6' cargo trailer

Most likely the brake pads are bad and the drums need to be turned the magnets are not able to lock the shoes in place. You may want to adjust the brake shoes firs, if the shoes have worn down then it will not brake without an adjustment. Jack up one side at a time and turn the Star up in the slot on the back of the brake plate adjust till you feel the wheel start slightly grabbing back off one click then do other side, see if they work by pulling the trailer and using the electric brake only see if it slows down your truck when you apply the manual brake bar on front of the electric brake. Does it slow you down? Yes? then you got it fixed if no then you will have to remove the drums and see if the surface is uneven where the magnets go. hope this helps let me know if you need more information.

I have a horse trailer and all of the lights works except the left turn signal. There is power at the appropriate blade(7way) on the tow vehicle (female) side but when I plug the trailer in and pull the...

Check the lug on the truck to be sure it doesn't move when the plug is connected. I had one that read 12 volts when I tested it but would slide in or move when I plugged into it. I replaced the plug on the truck and it solved that problem. Trailer wiring typical is yellow to the left turn/brake light. Does the left brake light work? Do the flashers work? Double check the fuses also... to left turn/brake on trailer. Hope this helps. Mike

2003 Chevy HD trailer wiring problem

I have the exact same issue. I have also tested my trailer on other vehicles and it works fine. I even purchased a light up tester and found the problem at the harness. It seems like a bad ground to me but I can't seem to find one.

The trailer lights have a common brake/turn wire while the truck has seperate turn and brake lights. I think the problem lies with the device that marries the two for the trailer wiring but I don't know where to find it?

I believe the box also is a safety feature in case of a wiring problem from some event, like an accident.
You need a converter to convert the turn signals and brake lights to run off the one bulb on the trailer. A flat 4 pole connector is the usual connection. A 4 to 5 pole converter may also be needed to add the backup light power to disengage the surge brakes while backing up If your trailer has that option. 4 to 5 is not really necessary but it eliminates having to get out and move the connector or insert the brake bypass key.
