Question about 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Headlights quit working, no low or highbeams, only pulling the lever toward the steering wheel works while holding the lever in the up position. After setting overnight the lights work normally again. All fuses check out good.

I own a 2005 with only 30,000 that has the very same problem. It is a relay under the dash that if you touch the lights come back on. It is located to the left of the ash tray just under the dash. If you reach your hand up there you will feel a unit with a bunch of wires coming out. wiggle the wires and the lights come back on. I have yet to bring my car in for service as I have taken it off the road but as soon as I do bring this car in I will up date you. I have been told by many of Grand Marquis owners this is VERY common. I have also contact Ford but have yet to hear back from them.
    Good Luck

The problem is most likely your cars multi function switch. That is the switch that controls your blinkers, dimmer, and everything else. If you change the switch that should solve your problem.

Low beam headlights do not work ..replaced switch and high beam bulb

try the lights with the tilt wheel in the up position. If the low beam works then, a wire has pulled out of the connector on the mutipurpose switch inside the steering column. remove the covers behind the steering wheel on the column and there is a large multi wire plug with many wires. it should be obvious which wire has pulled out or broken.

I suggest testing the relay for your highbeams (under the hood) as it sounds the relay is stuck in the on position. If that doesn't work, you may have to test your high / low beam lever to see if the contacts are touching

Sounds like your switch is bad (i.e. turn signal / healight dimmer / winshield lever switch) inside the steering column. Replace as necessary.

The headlights are stuck on high beam.

pull on the signal lever toward you (ceter position). the signal lever controls the head lights either high beam or low beam. if you pull on the signal lever toward you again, you will have high beam temporarily. and if you push the signal lever towards the front, you will have the high beam locked.

I have a 1997 Mazda 626 and my headlights go out for no reason. My highbeams seem fine so if I have to drive at night I have to drive around holding my highbeams on. Nobody can figure out the problem. I really need help on this. I need to drive my car at night and can't.
