Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat
If this engine is equipped with individual ignition coils, try swapping #4 with another position and see if the trouble follows. If so, then the coil has failed and will need to be replaced. If the trouble does not follow, then you need to inspect the injector unit and possibly check the cylinder for compression.
