Did you try to turn the key in the key barrel? is the key rotating accordingly? does it stop? if it doesn't stop rotating then means barrel got damaged and your Remote key FOB lost it's programming before that. so you should have your spare key if this is the case otherwise you'll end up to break 1 of the glasses to have your car opened. let me know more details and i'll come back to you if i can help

Did the car start when u broke the window?

I was locked out of my 2004 Range Rover. I had the key but it would not work. I could not pick the lock because you can't. I was able to hit the unlock button on the dash with a rod :).....,, no didn't work so :( , I was able to get a hanger around the inside door handle and pull up :)........,Didnt work :(( , I was able to take a brick and bust out the front window :).......didn't think that was right, time to regroup. I went online to one of those ask a mechanic sites and agreed to pay $12 if someone could tell me why I shouldn't break out my window. I received my answer shortly and found out the rear hatch has an emergency release. It's the top portion, you go through the weatherstripping and behind the plastic shell and get a clothes hanger around the wire and wah lah

Driver side door lock barrel turns, but does not unlock the door + my key FOB is dead

Well your FOB REMOTE Battery could be dead, try replacing it
on you lock cylinder, sounds like the clip that holds it fell off, broke or rusted off ? You have to take your inside door panel off to check this, there are screws and clips that hold your door panel on, some screws are around your arm rest, inside door handle, and there might also be some around the panel itself, the clips are behind the panel, by using a flathead screwdriver you can pry these, by sliding the screwdriver around the panel, but be careful not to crack your panel.
once off, check your door lock cylinder, there should be a U shape clip holding it, if not check the bottom of your door.
if your lock is molded in the plastic door handle, then you have to take this off

2004 range rover hse key will not turn after i replaced battery

did you turn key on ignition to number 2 then off and remove the old battery with in 30second. if not you need to have the ecu read as you have wiped the code of the immobilizer/alarm side and it will need to be reset on the machine some times you can do it with the key in at number 2 and press the fob until the doors lock. if this dont work then it will have to be master reset..

I own a '99 Range Rover 4.6 hse. I recently reinstalled a battery that had gone dead. I cranked the engine but the alarm went off and the vehicle did not start. I am getting this message: gearbox fault. I...

Unfortunately, there is a trick to replacing the battery.
1) Open the Driver side door.
2) Open the Bonnet and take the battery cover off.
3) Use your remote to lock and unlock the car (keeping the driver side door open)
4) Pull the Negative Lead from the battery first, followed by the Positive Lead.
5) Change or replace with charged battery.
6) Closed down Bonnet.
7) Your windows, sunroof, and key FOB will not work... so follow the next steps.

7a) Insert your key, with door closed into the exterior lock on driver's side.
7b) While turning the key to lock the door, hold down the "lock" button on your remote for 5 seconds while in "lick" position
7c) Your remote will reset, and you should be able to use your remote now
7d) While driving, roll each window down twice. On your third attempt, you should only have to touch the window button, and the window will have reset

Enjoy your Rover!

1996 4.0 Range Rover won't unlock

This car is in super lock mode... when you press remote 2times to lock or when you lock with remote and try to unlock using key manually.

there is a 4 digit number to open the door, its like opening a safe, starting from the left(key in car door) it goes L/R/L/R. so if number code is 1234..... left 1, right 2, left 3, right 4.

or if this too troublesome you can ask landrover dealer to remove the KEYCODE.

happy trying.....

Dead battery

Checking the specifications of your car, you can replace it with any battery that is the "approved sealed type". Make sure the cold crank amps match or is better than you have already. When you go to the battery shop (Sears, many car parts stores, etc), tell them your model of car and year, and they will be able to match it to what you have.

Also, make sure that you have one of your doors open when changing it to prevent being locked out.

Some other stuff of note:
When replacing the battery on 4.0/4.6 and later model Range Rovers, you should leave one of the doors open (preferably the drivers door) to prevent being locked out. This should prevent the locking system from automatically locking the vehicle and arming the alarm when the battery is being disconnected. Then, disconnect the battery negative lead first, and complete the replacement procedure normally. Afterwards, you need to put the key in the ignition to reset the alarm system and ignition transponder. You also need to key in the radio code to get it working again, and resynch the windows and sunroof. This procedure is described in the owners handbook. On the Mk III Range Rover, you even ave to reset the steering sensor after reconnecting the battery.
