these are not powertain codes, here is a typical code P0171, which system lean, these types of codes have been used by Dodge since 1996 model year, have 35 years of experience on this, either the equipment is faulty or you are reading them wrong, not sure what is going on here. Y are connected to the test connector in front of the steering wheel under the dash? give me a call if u like at my home, 925-577-7157

sorry these are ABS codes then, will have to look those up, have manuals will take time.

Both of those abs codes, the 71 and 72, point to a failed abs module. This explains the p0500, because the abs module is shutting down. Both of those abs codes will set when the module does a self test on its own memory and fails. There isn't anything to test on this one, its a clear cut failure of the abs module

is a picture of the location. This one shown is for a 4 wheel abs system with an extra connector opposed to the rear only system. Its over on the driver's side of the engine compartment on top of the big aluminum block with all the brake lines running into it. Its easy to replace, only four screws hold it on. You can replace it yourself to save some money, but the speedometer won't work until its calibrated with a factory scan tool. This only takes a couple minutes. As for price, I can't give an exact number. You'd have to call your dealer with your vin number to get the price.

THESE ARE ABS CODES THEY ARE NOT TRANSMISSION CODES, SO IF U ARE TRYING TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION U ARE BARKING UP THE WRONG REPAIR TREE, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING OUT OF 1ST GEAR, IF U HAD A TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROBLEM THAT WAS ELECTRONIC IN NATURE U WOULD HAVE FAULT CODES FOR IT, ONCE AGAIN THOSE WOULD BE "P" SERIES POWERTRAIN CODES, NOT ABS 2 DIGIT CODES, I SUSPECT U HAVE A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION.

If you have the 3.7L V6 or 4.7L V8, your transmission is fully electronically controlled by a transmission control module (TCM). This module stores codes just like the PCM does for engine problems. Find a mechanic or a code reader that can read codes from the TCM to see if it has any codes stored, and what the codes indicate as the problem. If there are no codes, you may want to try just changing the fluid and filters (there are two) in the transmission.

I'd get your brakes checked out. Check for abs trouble codes. I know some of the national brand auto stores will check po codes for free, not sure about abs codes?

That sounds dangerous to me, get it checked out. Till you get it fixed, set your parking brake when you stop, that should help.

What does the service engine soon mean on my 2004 dodge Dakota

Take your vehicle down to one of the auto-part chain stores. They will plug in an ODB-II Code Reader for you, for free.

That will give you the problem code(s) causing the light to come on, and you will be well on your way to fixing the problem.

Sometimes something as simple as a loose gas-cap one time can cause the light to activate and stay on.

You will need scanned the PCM to know exactlyy what "warning"fault code is stored there; with this code number could send details to solve and turn off. Some sensor is failed.

Keep us updated.

Too tight.....the the torque for the 4 banger is 72 in lbs

the 6 cylinder is only 80 in lbs.

Any tighter and you start to squeeze the gaskets to where they will leak.
