Hello... It is very difficult to change the fuel (gas) pump on your vehicle unless you have the right equipment and experience.

The big thing is that you have to get access under the vehicle and disconnect and drop the gas tank. Unless you know what you are doing this can be very difficult.

Good Luck.... Hope this helped....

Is it difficult to replace fuel pump for a 2000 astro van

it should not be to difficult to replace. you will probably need to drop the gas tank down some and try to remove the fuel lines and wires from the pump be careful the fuel lines could be brittle and easy to break you will also need to make sure noting else is connected to the gas tank before you take it out. once the tank is out all you half to do is remove the old pump it is likely just held in by a snap ring and put the new pump in than put the fuel tank back up into the van and reconnect everything you took off. it is much easier to take the fuel tank out if it is empty. also I usually use a floor jack to hold the fuel tank when I am taking things off and putting things on.

Fuel pump

Think this model is a fuel sending unit located INSIDE the gas tank. Sure it needs one? Check all your fuses and relays associated with the fuel delivery system. When you turn your key to the :"Run" or "On" position, do you hear a whine coming from the rear (fuel tank area) of your car? If you do, you dont need a fuel pump. If not, double check all fuses and relays and wires & connections. The part is expensive and very difficult to replace by the average shade tree mechanic. I would rather pay someone else to do it and I am pretty good with good tools - it is that difficult. Good luck.

Why it has trouble starting the first time every day, but works fine later, and runs good

If it only gives trouble after standing unused for several hours, I would suspect the gas lines, possibly. After sitting for several hours, if your gas lines are already gunked up, then it's difficult to get the fuel to the engine after sitting for several hours. Once you use it, and warm it up, then it's not as difficult getting fuel through gunked up lines. Just a possibility.

Where is fuel pump locate

It's in the gas tank. If you've never pulled a tank off to replace a pump, I advise you to buy a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your Olds to follow the procedure-not immensely difficult, but pretty involved. All lines to the tank removed, electrical plugs disconnected, filler hose removed, then lower and drop the tank-2 straps usually hold it up-(helps to have as little gas as possible in the tank, or it will be quite heavy-in that case, use a floor jack with some wood padding to avoid denting the tank), remove tank away from car. To get to the pump, remove the locking ring (on top of tank) with a brass punch or wooden dowel (so no sparks, see?) or be very careful if you use a steel punch or big screwdriver-NOT RECOMMENDED-but I have done it without sparks, so just be careful. pull the locking ring off and pull out the pump and fuel sender unit. Take off old pump, and replace with new-hopefully it is a OEM-original equipment manufacture-Aftermarket brand pumps just do not perform as well as original (olds) equipment. If the pump has failed, it is good practice to also replace the fuel pump relay-a failing pump can sometimes damage or shorten the life of the fuel pump relay, or so I've heard. Common tools and ratchets are needed for the job-possibly also a release tool for the fuel line fittings-if you have those types of fittings, I think you do, called quick connect fittings.
There's lots of other procedures to get the tank off-like lowering tank, then remove lines and electricals from top of tank, probably the exhaust will have to be lowered, you can siphon gas out the filler neck after lowering the tank a bit. You need to know how to relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting lines, but if little or no gas is in the lines, there won't be pressure. You just need a repair manual to do it step by step-...and label all lines removed, so you know where they go back on the tank.
If I haven't discouraged you yet, buy the manual, and get set for a dirty Saturday afternoon. Essentials like beer and pot are a given. lol.

Gas gage not working

In order to fix your gas gauge, you will need to remove the gas tank and either re-adjust or replace the fuel pump. In your van, the fuel pump and fuel sensor are the same unit.

This is moderately difficult. The hardest part is getting the fuel pump out of the tank without damaging any fuel lines or wiring. The procedure can take anywhere from 3 hours to 8 hours, depending on the tools you have available to do the job.

A hammer, long thick flat tipped screw driver and a socket wrench and set are a minimum for this job, though specialty tools made for your van can make the job easier and faster.

Car wont start.ran good until thurs.no fuel pressure

most likely the electric fuel pump inside the gas tank has failed, u will need to remove the gas tank from the car to replace this pump, this is a very difficult job on the ground, u will need a high quality floor hydraulic floor jack and 4 safety stands as well as a Ford fuel line removal tool and a good set of hand tools, let me know if you intend to replace this yourself and will give more detailed instructions.

How do you get to the fuel pump on this car is there a way without drop the tank? Also the pumps works but whinns and when i and tooling around town after it has been running for a while at low RPMs the...

The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. You must drop the tank to service it. You have options when you repair it. You can replace just the motor (cheaper) or you can replace the entire harness including the motor (expensve but easier).
It is difficult to determine which componant of the fuel process is bad. There are fuel fuses both in the fuse relay and in other areas such as under the hood. I don't know exactly where on the Monte Carlo.
The fuel pump powers up before you start the engine. To hear the fuel pump without the vehicle on, have someone "almost" start the car while you are underneath listening. Just before you start the car, the pump will turn on for about 3 seconds to pressure up before the car starts. Then it will shut off if you do not start it.
It should not be too difficult to drop the tank. Dissconnect the (-) batterey terminal. There should be some bands that clamp together with a long bolt that hold the tank up. Make sure you open the gas fill and disconnect it because that will also hold it up and keep it from dropping. There should also be a ground wire nearby that will need to be dissconnected. There will be several little clamps that hold the fuel lines connected to the frame that will need to be undone so as to create slack in order to drop the fuel tank.
If you have never done it before, you may need someone to show you how to remove the pump. There are rings with little tabs that need to be spun counter-clockwise. They might be covered in oil and dirt and difficult to see. Clean this area as much as you can. You do not want debris to fall in your tank when you remove the pump. Spinning the rings can be difficult. I use a screwdriver and a hammer and gently tap in the correct direction, alternating to a different tab every few taps so as not to shear off the tabs. Then replace with the correct part. Lifting the tank and getting the bands back in place is difficult but can be done.
