If you would like to fix this yourself, you will be needing to pull the door panel off that side and finding the problem inside the door, but, before you do, here's what you are looking for:
The door latch is fastened to the door jamb with screws.
There are several wire-like levers that come to the door latch and tell it whether to lock or not, to open or not, etc.
The wire type levers come from the two handles, ( inside and out,) and the locking mechanisms, inside and out.
One of your has broken or come apart.
Maybe a bushing has failed at the end of one of the levers.
Be blessed.

2001 volkswagon cabrio power windows on driver side wont go up and passenger window wont go down, stopped working all at the same time

The Cabrio electric window issues are most often related to a bad Window regulator. My wife owns a 2002 Cabrio, that had a mis-behaving drivers window. After inspecting it, I found one of the cable roller guides was broken, causing the cable to snag when using the window open / close. I had a local garage order the regulator for me, and then I disassembled the drivers door and installed the new regulator (problem is now solved). Additionally, her passenger window stopped working, however, if you listened carefully, you could here a click sound when the button was pushed. I took this door apart as well, removing the regulator, I found it was jammed. Carefully, I removed the cover concealing where the cable rolls up, and was able to free the pressure. Once this was done, the window worked fine.

Driver side window will not come down. when I press button to roll down dome light in car comes on.

The most common problem with Cabrio auto windows is the Window regulator. Each window has it's own. My wife also owns a 2002 Cabrio, that had a mis-behaving window driver window and the passenger was locked in the up position. After inspecting the drivers window, I found one of the cable roller guides was broken, causing the cable to snag when using the window open / close, and resulting in the window seeming to have a mind of it's own. I had a local garage order the regulator for me, and then I disassembled the drivers door and installed the new regulator (problem is now solved).
The passenger window was bound up, I also had to remove the regulator and let loose the tension in the cable system by carefully removing the cover over the cable roller. This window works fine now as well.

Does anyone have driver door layout/diagram to open it up and check on the power window motor and regulator for a 2000 volkswagen cabrio 2.0L fuel injection automatic. Window doesn't go up but you can hear...

there are screws under door handle. the larger one that doesnt move. you need to pop off the cover on it. you can probably figure out the rest. once the door trim is removed, there will be two black rubber plugs near the top of the regulator. pop them out (dont let them fall inside the door) and then push the window up/down button until you see the white or silver clips line up with those two holes. loosen the t-30 torx screws about 2 turns. remove the black inner glass seal. (the one that runs along the top of the door panel) lift the window up and get it all situated where it should be, in the guides, in the fully up position. slide it down slowly and it will go into the two clips. tighten up the t-30 torx screws and reassemble. fixed. for about another year. dont overtighten those screws that are on the clips though, because if you do, the window will break. this is a very very common problem on 99-04 vw's

Hold switch in up position for ten seconds in either key position 1 or 2. It fixed my "dead" window twice. Magic. Just monkey with that switch as I did, haven't been so happy since I lost my virginity. Actually, this was better.
