Try having the fuel pump checked for correct amt. of pressure and also have your compression checked, if ok, and also try changing the gas filter/s. These are the cheapest places to start at be 4 you spend too much on this truck. Adios

1988 Chevy Truck suddenly stopped running while running 60 mph down the highway. Just quit. Now the engine turns, but doesn't fire. Tried starting fluid. Won't fire. Check spark, and I have spark. So...

If you're certain you have spark then try the starting fluid again strait into the throttle body with someone immediately starting it. Your compression may be another issue to look at but this is uncommon to stop you while running down the road. You might want to check the compression though. Take off a valve cover to confirm that the valves are still moving to help rule out a broken timing chain.

There's fuel to the engine but it will not fire it

Check your inertia switch in the trunk and press to reset it. See if you hear the pump run when you turn the key. Then try to start it. If it has been awhile since fuel filter time, you could do a fuel sample and replace the filter. You must have some type of spark to ignite the starting fluid, but your TPS switch regulates fuel pressure and spark advance. A code reader would be a nice thing to use right now. You may want to look at the timing belt for shredding. I hope this helps you.
