Question about 2004 GMC Envoy

3 Answers

The key got stuck in the ignition.

I attempted to start the car , heard a popping noise. The car would not start. I can't get the key out of the ignition nor lock the door. What could be wrong? Is this a problem that only a dealership is able to handle?

I have a key that I can not shut off and vehicle runs fine. the mechanic says I need to repace the whole shifter mechanism and says it can not tell I am in Park thus the key will not shut off when in Park. Is this hard to change and do I have to change the whole shifter mechanism or is there a repair PDF I can view and do it my self. Where do you suggest to buy these parts? They want $350.00 to fix this censor problem?

Try boosting the battery first, low voltage will not start the engine and you will not be able to remove the ignition key's from the switch. Try not to force the key's out of the ignition switch, the switch is a part of the security system and pulling to hard can result in the additional repair and replacement part to get your Envoy running 100% again soon.
Thank you for using fixya and replace the car battery. Good luck

THIS NOT SOLEY A DEALERSHIP JOB. Any reputable repair shop can do this repair. Have the vehicle towed to a repair shop.

1999 Crown turned ignition switch to start - heard pop - no electrical power

If nothing works including the lights, something happened between the battery and the fuse box.
There are some fuseable links between the battery and the starter solenoid or between the solenoid and the fuse box.
I'd start with the battery cables and look for those fuseable link wires.

Try to do the crank relearn:
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.

2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt tostart the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle.
3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

Sounds like the solenoid. You know you have Roadside Assistance with your new Hyundai. Have it towed in and get it diagnosed & repaired under warranty.

When the ignition key is turned a clicking noise is heard.

Sounds like a bad ground. If the battery voltage does not drop when the starter is engaged, the starter is not getting the juice. Check the ground connection again. 90%
