The light means there is a problem with your charging system...not necessarily your battery.

The most common culprit to that is your alternator. Remove it and take it in to be tested for free at your local auto parts tore.

Take it to a qualified service technician...or you can disconnect the battery, and it will reset all of the computer functions.

check battery volts should be 12.6 volts.if not battery is dead.if battery okay starter relay is bad on fenderwell next to battery or starter it self faulty.if all is good faulty neutral switch to transmission will cause no starter operation.turn off radio before disconnecting negative battery cable.

Check engine light

there is no reset switch, either take it to a big name auto parts store and have them use a scanner to give you the codes and turn off the light,or just disconnect battery for 3min and the light should go out. the first suggestion is the better, this way you will know what turned the light on in the first place, get back to me if you need more help, please rate my fix

My 1994 Ford Thunderbird now smokes when I start it - no noises in the engine, but smokes like crazy. Check engine light is one now?

state what color the smoke is. White smoke is antifreeze. Gray smoke is fuel, and black smoke is oil. Also have the computer scanned so you know why the light is on.
