The drain plug is underneath there should be a plastic cover under engine held on by tox screws either t20 or t25 remove these an cover will comeoff remove the drain plug after oil syops draining reinstall plug then the cover now under the hood remove the cover that says tdi it should pop off then you will see a plastic cup with a hex for a wrench or socket use your wrench to remove this as the oil filter is inside replace the filter and reinstall then 4.5 quarts of castrol synthetic dont use regular oil this will cause issues later on down the road

How to reset oil light for 2000 jetta vr6

Did you have the oil leak prior to changing the oil? The "change engine oil" indicator is just a service reminder to get the oil changed. You need to reset it. Call your local dealer or check your owner's manual for instructions on doing this. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very nice to know that somebody care of his car.I understood that this is 1.9 TDI JETTA in124000 miles. To avoid problems in the future you have to change gearbox oil by recommended from a manufacturer.Second-Check all wheel bearings/rear ones/ for noise. Also make suspension test. any way you have to visit vw workshop for full diagnostic of the JETTA

PO231 is related to the engine speed sensor. It's on the right side of the oil filter.

What type of motor oil should I use for a 2001 jetta tdi?

There's a few that you can use - but in general

Use Full Synthetic only for the TDIs...

There's various schools of thought after that in terms of 5x 30, 5w 40, even 0w 30 or 0w40

I've been using Castrol Synthetic 5w 30. The original specs for my 2000 Jetta TDI may have been for 5w40 oil formulated for diesels - but with the Synthetics now I think the 5w30 is felt to be the best in terms of what works best in the Turbo

You can probably go every 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes - a good thing since the synthetic oils are more expensive

by the way, some also suggest changing the fuel filter at every oil change. I'm thinking that's a bit much but others may disagree... maybe ever 15,000 miles for me

What are the tune-up guidelines for 2000 Jetta that has 153K miles? Also, in the past week the oil gauge stopped working (but oil level is good) and the trunk latch won't open (it makes the sound like the...

A mechanic told me there really isn't a "tune up" per say for a Jetta TDI. Most importantly, the timing belt (w/water pump) replacement is the biggest concern. Change all the belts, check the glow plugs. If you drive on the highway a lot, the mass air flow sensor and its related hoses should be ok (carbon build up).

Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles

is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also?  If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor.  Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time.  Good uck as his price is decent.  Ask him the price for a long block?

Oil light on 99' Jetta TDI

Hi,
The "oil light" is actually a "low oil pressure" light, and not a "low oil level" light. I would get it checked out at a garage asap.
Did they change the filter at the same time? D
