Sounds like a relay with high resistance on the contacts. it could also be a bad connection somewere in the harness most likely at a connector. when high resistance at a connector or relay is encountered the connection gets worse with the heat produced by the bad connection.

Where can I find the correct place/plug/port to connect a diagnosis code reader/scanner to find out what is wrong with my 2002 ford Taurus SE Automatic Transmission isn't shifting into either reverse or...

The obd port under the steering wheel is the place to plugin. A code reader for a transmission cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. The site forscan, org has great scan software for a ford. It requires a elm327 usb to obd device to connect your car to a laptop. Elm327 devices can be purchased on ebay for under $20. Forscan might work for a transmission, I have used it on a ford ABS system.

Failed smog test because of fault code po174 : system too lean (bank 2) ford taurus 1998

Leak on the intake, bad EGR valve that's not closing. Perhaps a bad O2 sensor, but probably not. The O2 sensor is what detects a rich/lean condition. But when they fail they usually give their own error codes.

My 97 taurus takes a long time to start sometimes not until engine cools down after driven. obd2 codes 443 174 171 keep showing up then engine light comes on then sputters and stalls can anyone tell me...

P171 and 174 is running lean that means you have either no fuel pressure, bad fuel pump, cloged fuel filter and somethimes vacum leak on your intake manifold gasket.
443 indicates EGR valve solenoid malfunction.

It sure sounds like the trans is slipping, buy your discription of the problem is not very clear to me, so that may not be the case, I would suggest you have the electronic engine and transmission control module tested for fault codes, if a transmission control solenoid is defective it will have a fault code in the memory of the control Module, which we call a PCM, the coil your friend refers to is a solenoid, if nothing shows up for codes I suggest you have a transmission shop drive the car and give you there opinion, they will do this for free in most cases as they want the job if somethiong is wrong.

96 taurus no turn signals

Try pushing the emergency flasher button in and out a few times.Dirt and liquid can get inside the turn signal switch, causing the contact problems. This is a common problem, and replacement of the switch might be nessesary

I have a 96 for taurus. While driving it starts

This is a good indication that the catalytic converter is bad.  Other symptoms include a smelly sulphur like exhaust, a lot of heat coming from the exhaust (in the middle of the car), a lot of smoke from the exhaust.
