yeah they should be able to unlock the stero /unhooking battery without retreiving codes will lock up stereo . i would tell them get codes or get new stereo

go to a store were they sell car stero an take your radio an tell them u need a wiring harsent to plug in the radio an plug into the plugs on the car you have dont go to walmart the dont sell them its going to be from car stero store.

Try this: If you have jumped or replaced the battery at anytime this will happen. You have to get the serial number off the radio by removing it or partially taking it out to see the numbers on it try not to remove any cords. With the stereo out (to make sure you get the right number off of it) call an Acura dealership with the number and they will give you the another number to enter into the stereo and directions on how to punch the numbers in. Make sure while you have the stereo out you write the serial number down and keep it in a safe place also the number that the Acura dealership gives you because if you sell the car or if it happens again its easily accessible. probably the belt for the pullys inside are worn, if you can get replacement ones they are easy to fit, just open the case and slip the old one off and new one on.(may have to remove an internal cover also)

I am not sure about repairing the unit. Do you have a CD cleaner?
You might check with a reputable auto electronics shop, one that specializes in car audio. They may have an adapter that will allow an aftermarket radio to be controlled from the steering wheel. Rosen makes a nice am/fm/cd/dvd navigation unit that also has XM and iPod inputs. The hard part will be to find supporting interfaces and wiring harnesses to fit a 99.

Yes you can do it.You can use a factory one out of another chrysler or an aftermarket stereo.

You wll need a stereo installation adapter kit. This will change the dash opening to the size you need, oftentimes by replacing an entire dash panel for a factory look.
