Question about 2004 Dodge Ram 1500
The key will not turn in the ignition. The steering is not locked and it is in park. Any other causes?
You have bent tumblers inside the lock cylinder. A replacement will be needed for this repair. The old one is unuseable since the tumblers are stuck inside and the key does not turn it no longer

Testimonial: "That makes sense. thanks."
For most cars and trucks the steering wheel must be locked for the key to turn. try pushing the brake and turning the steering wheel from one side to the other. once the wheel locks the key should turn and then u can start the truck.

GM has had problems with the ignitions they use for years. Only option is to replace the tumbler assembly (ignition switch). If you have security installed theirs a special procedure to relearn the key.

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

either you have the wrong key,or try turning the steering wheel to the right all the way, then turn key, this usually happens when you park the vehicle and the wheels are turned, then the steering wheel locks hard
