Question about 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Trailblazer, the alternator is starting to make some noise, and I would like to replace it. It appears to be a straight forward job, loosen the serpentine belt then remove and replace the alternator... is there a set of instructions I could follow to accomplish this?

Thats pretty much it thge big important step is to disconnect the negative battery terminal first the starter connection is hot and the car is ground you dont want to bump metal with that connection unles power is removed and your car is pretty new you might need to plug a power saver in not too erase the ECU while the battery is disconected there about 12 bucks at a parts store double check your model might not need it

Ivan, Trailblazer only came with the 6 or 8 cylinders. You probably have the I6 engine. I have found that removing the battery AND battery tray makes this job really easy. Must remove alternator and alternator bracket. Pretty forward from there, make sure you replace your temperature sensor also while you're in there, it's right above the thermostat.

My 2005 trailblazer makes a bird chirping noise. Exactly like birds. My mechanic replaced the belt but it is still making the noise.

If is a serpentine belt, take it out and check the belt tensioner. some of them have a screw that allows for tightening/loosing the belt. Sometimes it looses some bearings and it could chirp.

Humming sound coming from engine told it was the alternator

This noise could be the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, idler pulley or tensioner pulley. Sometimes an automotive stethescope is used to isolate noises around the engine.

I have an Audi 1.8T 2002 the temperature guage barely gets over the minimum setting of 50, most audi's I have had the needle goes to the middle (90). Can anyone advise what is wrong I have only just bought...

The most likely problem you have is a partially stuck open cooling system thermostat. The coolant is constantly flowing through the radiator, so its not warming up as required. This in turn will increase your fuel consumption considerably. The alternator needs to be removed to gain access to the front of the engine block where the thermostat is located. Its a fiddly job, but straight forward for a competent mechanic. Another common fault also related with the cooling system is a faulty coolant temperature sender. Again a straight forward part to replace if needed.
Hope this helps you.

there is a square black box on the RH side of the engine compartment with the emisson label on it. Four phillps head screws holding it down, remove the screws and lift the box off, the filter is straight forward replacement after that.

check the idler/tensioner pully's and the alternator pully, there is a common problem with one of these 3 going bad, usually an idler pully the best way to check is to get a mechanics stethescope and touch the end to the bolt on the idler pully's you will notice a very distinct sound difference from a smooth pully and one with bad bearings. gm tech here, seen many of these
