There are two! the easy one should be right under the bottom radiator hose on the radiator . the second is harder to get to it's located on the engine block, depending what motor you have depends where it is located, usually on the side towards the bottom. its a screw in plug when removed it will drain your engine.
The 1998 Chevy Malibu does not have a transmission dipstick. Although there is a check plug located on the transaxle, near the pan, adjacent to the engine oil drain plug.
normally thermostats are located at the end of where the top radiator hose connects to the intake manifold, there should be at least 2 -3 bolts holding the thermostat housing on, radiator will have to be drained low enough in order to remove the hose, and housing. and thermostat, and gasket.
the drain valve is located on the back of the radiators plastic side tank, most models on the drivers side, u can't reach it from up top, get under the car and u will see it, a black plastic valve
Due to the complexity of the newer cars on the raod today!! what you are experiencing is Normal!!! since the coolant systems on the newer cars run at such a higher pressure and a high Rpm the reserve tank which has it's on drain hose for excessive overflow from the radiator allows the extra high pressure release from the radiator to back flow to the reserve tank and then out the reserve tank overflow hose on to the raod
1) Drain all coolant from the engine/radiator. 2) Drill a hole in the old plug to allow you to thread a lag bolt, which will then be used to pull the old plug out. Or use whatever means you can to remove the old freeze plug. 3) Thoroughly clean the hole with a wire brush attached to a drill motor. 4) Apply sealant to new freeze plug and locate into the hole. 5) Tamp the plug into the hole, flush with the block, with a hammer. 6) Refill radiator with coolant. 7) Check for leaks.
This isn't going to be easy with the engine in the car, but it can be done.
