Question about 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

The AC on my 2006 Jetta just stopped working...

Could the compressor be gone already? It was working last year and I thought it just needed to be recharged because it wasn't as cool as it had been in the past. When I turned it on for the first time this season all I had was warm air!

Hi MechxD.

About the Jetta AC, if it is charged it is usually the compressor. I think that there was a service bulletin recalling Sanden AC compressor 1K0 820 803 S

Check limiter (see pic.) and control valve. The limiter gets easily damaged and control valve gets stuck with metal particles.

The AC stops blowing air for a while and then re-start working normaly.

Have you noticed that the AC quits blowing cold air when you are heavy on the throttle, or climbing a hill? Does it return to blowing cold air when you let back off the throttle and relieve the load from the engine?

If you answered YES to those questions, your AC is operating normally. AC compressors take quite a bit of power from the engine to operate. In vehicles with smaller engines, the AC compressor will disengage when there is a heavy demand for power placed on the engine, and you will not get cold air. When that demand is gone, it re-engages power to the AC compressor.

THE AIR CONDITIONING IN MY 2000 JETTA VR6 JUST STOPPED WORKING, NO WARNING. I HAD TWO DIFFERANT MECHANICS LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID THAT THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT GETTING ANY VOLTAGE, BUT WHEN THEY JUMP VOLTAGE TO THE COMPRESSOR IT STILL WILL NOT START. THEY SAID THE COMPRESSOR SEEMS TO BE OKAY. ANY SUGGESTIONS

Overheating when ac on

If the engine is overheating when the A/C is operated it means your cooling system is marginal. Your radiator is probably blocked and now your cooling system cannot cope with the additional heat generated by the A/C radiator.(Remember the A/C radiator sits in front of the engine radiator) I'd recommend a cooling system flush and failing that, have the radiator cleaned by a specialist or replace it with a new unit.

Best way to access AC compressor on 2006 Jetta to replace it?

e61f732.jpg
1. Make sure the vehicle is off with key removed.
2. You need to evacuate the refrigerant with a refrigerant recovery system.
3. Remove the ribbed belt.
4. Remove the noise insulation beneath the engine.
5. Remove the bolts (1) from A/C compressor and disconnect refrigerant lines.
6. Remove hex screws (2) and remove the compressor.

Reinstall in reverse order making sure the bushings (3) are seated. Make sure your new compressor is filled with regrigerant oil prior to install and you do not start the car prior to filling it back up with regrigerant. Turn the ribbed belt pulley of A/C compressor 10 rotations by hand before starting the engine.

The ac in my 95 Jetta just works while the car is cool, then it stop

In addition to what emission wiz says, observe the speed of the fan when you turn on the a/c. some fans, when the are cold they run faster, then they get hot and slow down a lot. Also check that the small belt that drives the second propeller is ok. And for last, check that the front of the radiator is clear of any garbage, like a plastic bag that might have been cought in front of the condenser with the wind. If all this is working properly, there is nothing else that could be happening machanically to this a/c to stop it from cooling. look at the center of the pully of the compresor, make sure the entire thig is spining when clutch engages.
