Question about 1997 GMC Safari

I have a gmc safari van that has the key stuck in the ignition it is running and will not turn offf. How do we stop the vehicle from running?

Probably the easiest and safest way is to go to the fuse box and pull the "ECM" fuse. If the fuse box does not have labels for which fuse is which, just start pulling and replacing fuses until the engine quits.

You don't jump a running vehicle

You shouldn't jumping any of todays
vehicles,always charge the battery

You did whatever to it

Key stuck in ignition of my 94 gmc safari, had to unhook the battery to turn the van off. Do I have to replace my ignition, or is there anything else I can try first?

Be sure to check your charging system, it usually self destructs when battery is disconnected. what happens is the voltage regulator goes full out, and fries diodes...

Starter is messed.

you need to check the ing switch under the column there is a rod that runs to it from the key cyl it has more then likely shorted out

1999 gmc safari doesnt have a spark

1996 safari van

most vehicles can have the ignition cylinder removed while in the neutral position. If you can remove your lower steering column cover, you should be able to remove the bolts and pull it out. I do recommend disconnecting the battery first though.
