First get the gas checked, as the pressure leaks out, there are all sorts of seals and joints in the system and they will all lose pressure slightly, there is a loss of efficiency and this shows up most when you first need it in the spring, Ive seen places offering a gas top up with A/C check for $70 could be a good idea, you can buy adapters for less than that with cans of gas to diy.

The fans are normally thermostatic - which means they only operate above a certain air temperature. If the air coming across the radiator is below a pre-determined temperature, they will not operate.
If the temperature gauge was only half way they may not have reached the required temperature to turn on.
When you are travelling the movement of the car usually provides enough air across the radiator to keep it cool enough - when you stop and they is no moving air, the fans will normally come on then.

My Jeep cherokee fan motor run,when ignition switch is off,but does not run when engine is running.why?


the fans are there to cool the engine but once you stop the car the temperature is not being cooled by movement of air and water circulation via the water pump so the fan cuts in for a short time to stop the temperatures causing damage. when driving the air cools the motor enough to keep it a t the right temp no air movement no cooling.

Compressor Clutch disengages and Radiator Fan starts to run loudly


The radiator fan should turn on when the a/c clutch engages as this is designed to increase the cooling of the engine as the a/c increases the engine loading. But the compressor clutch should stay engaged as long as there is need for cooling, and disengage/re-engage as the temperature control calls for cool air. The radiator fan will shut off IF the engine temperature is cool enough to do so, as it is regulated by heat, as well as the A/c override.

If your air conditioning is not cooling the car and the clutch is simply disengaging prematurely, have the temperature control and relay checked for proper operation. Also have the refrigerant level checked to assure there is adequate refrigerant in the system and no leaks. My first bet would be the relay or the thermostatic temperature control under the dash.

Normal, the ac heat exchanger condenser need air moving across the fins to remove the heat. While moving in town the condenser isn't remove the meat that is building up the it's aluminum fins. Even though the vehicle uses an electric fan. The fan is used to cool the engine temperature. If you Toyota is equip-ed with automatic transmission. The electric fan will need to pull enough air to cool the engine temperature, automatic transmission fluid, air conditioner condenser, and maybe power steering condenser to cool the power steering fluid. Later model of vehicles/trucks are using different refrigerants instead R134A in which you Toyota uses.

The simples way to explain is the ac remove heat from inside your Toyota and this heat is removed by the refrigerants inside your ac in the car. To cool the refrigerant this coolant is removed to the heat exchanger condenser located in front of the engine radiator. So, while moving at 60mph there is enough air flow through the radiator, ac head condenser, and other aluminum heat exchangers. GB...stewbison

Engine cooling fan won't come on while driving


The electric cooling fan is not needed while the car is driving down the road. Air is being forced through the radiator and provides enough air flow to cool the system properly. The only time the cooling fan is required is when the A/C is in use or the coolant system temperature has reached 225F.

Your car has a temperature senser and as soon as the temperature is above a certain level the engine fails as a way of safety. its a safety control switch . First start the engine when it is cool and then check the performance of the fan. Is the generating enough air to cool the engine.as it is running check the temperature gauge i the car and see the level . It could be the fan not providing enough air cool the engine.

Sounds like your cooling fans on the radiator are not working. The fans are activated by a thermol switch on the engine or radiator reading the coolant temperature and an A/C switch. When the coolant is too hot the fans should activate cooling the system down. And, when the A/C is on the fans should also activate in order to cool the condensate so the A/C would work.

When you are driving, the movement of the vehicle throught he air is providing enough air flow to keep things cool and functional.

I would check the radiator fan fuse or fuses first. If those are OK I would try to run the fans with 12 volts and a ground that I supply just to see if the fan motor(s) actually run when powered. If the fan don't run when powered then the fans are bad and will need to be replaced. If the fans do run when you power them manually, then something is not allowing the power to activate, like a relay, control unit, or wiring.

It will take a little diagnostics, but it is not too difficult to chase it down.

Temperature needle rises near red zone when idle, then when moving needle starts dropping back to normal area. no leaks found under car


First, if you haven't already done so, check your fluid level in the radiator. It may be too low. The reason for the drastic temperature change is the fact that when your car is sitting still, you have too little water to cool the engine, and too little air moving across the radiator to cool the short amount of water. Then, when you start driving the car, the air movement increases tremendously to the extent that the water can be cooled enough to cool the engine.

No heat air is blowing cold


First you have to identify what causes the problem.
To do this you have to:
1) When engine is cold check the level of coolant. If it is low fill it up.
2) Start engine and check if engine reaches regular temperature. If your engine is not heated enough it means your thermostat does not work properly and should be replaced.
3) If engine temperature is normal, then check the temperature of pipes that go to/from heater core. These pipes are located up the fire wall (easier access is from the passenger side). If pipe/pipes are cold (even engine is worm) it means you heater core is plugged and should be flushed. Keep in mind, flushing the whole cooling system is different from flushing heater core.
4) If pipe/pipes are hot/warm, turn off the fan, switch controller to the hot position, wait for 3-4 minutes and turn on the fan. Note if the cold air blows first or warm air blows first but it cools down in 5-10 seconds. If the air blows cold than it is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator.
5) If air blows warm first and then cools down, then while running engine and remaining the transmission in PARKING position, press on the gas pedal until your engine reaches 3,000 RPM. Check if your heater blows warm/hot air. If it does, then your water pump does not work properly and should be replaced. If the air still cold, I would suggest to flush the heater core.

Kia over heats when air is on only


your AC cooling fan is not working properly, most vehicle has two fans, one for the radiator and another for AC, both work in sync with one another; if one cooling fan only working it does not produce enough cooling for both radiator and condenser at the same time; by running ac you producing more heat and its cant cool the engine fast enough with one fan so your engine is overheating when running AC. The temperature sensor could be faulty and need to be replace or your fan motor can also be faulty. Check the fuse first and the relay make sure they are not burn out. sensor cost about 30 bucks get it new, relay 35-40 new used 5 bucks at junk yard, fan get it from a junk yard for 25-30 bucks, new will run over 100 bucks. don't run the air and overheat your motor, it can damage your engine or may blow your radiator. if you do run ac watch the temp very closely, don't let temperature get into the red.
