I have a 2005 Pontiac that makes a hissing noise underneath the car. you can turn the car ignition on without fully starting car and it still makes hissing noise then stops.HELP!!!!!

There is a distinct sound that has a hissing component when you first turn on the key. It will last a second or two when the key is turned to the run position. When the engine started the sound will return and continue to produce the noise so long as the engine is running.

A relatively low noise is normal. If you are concerned check other like cars for the loudness level.

how to check your fuel pump

The pressure regulator on the fuel rail can also produce a sound when the fuel pump is running. The regulator is under the hood and any reasonable noise would not be a concern, A clicking sound is also normal throughout the fuel system when the engine is running created by the fuel injectors cycling.

What do I do?

Lift the hood and listen for a hissing noise. If no hissing noise have a mechanic check it for vacuum leaks. This requires a scanner tool if no vacuum leaks-best off at a repair shop.

My 1992 Jeep wrangler has a hissing noise coming from the back of the steering column and is having trouble shifting

Normally a hissing noise when the engine is running is a vac leak.
I'm not aware of anything behind the speedo that would be affected but you might check for vac hoses. Might be the power brake booster leaking vac but that is in the engine compartment.

Your cooling system is not working properly. You should have this looked at immediately. Could be a stuck thermostat. Is your engine temp running hot?

Sounds like the brake booster diaphragm is holed or vacuum feed from engine leaking.

Needs urgent repair as may affect braking.

Rough running and hissing noise, are most likely an indication of a vacuum leak. Check your vacuum hoses and repare or replace any that are broken or brittle.

2002 Mitsubishi Galant ''hissing noise''

I would first try to locate the source of the hissing. Try spraying some engine starting fluid around the hissing area and home in on the source. The engine revs will change as the starting fluid is drawn into the engine. Sounds though more like a vacuum as you have suggested.
