I have a 1991 Town Car and the air bags won't air up. I tried putting air to the compresser but it would not raise the back end.

Why won't rear end raise up ?

I have a 2000 Lincoln Town car, had the same problem, it was the rear air suspension/shocks. They are air bags basically that levels your car and it cost about $300.00 for each at the dealer for parts and install but it also has its own motor that inflates and deflates these air bags and I also had to replace that and that cost over $400.00 installed at the dealer.

What does the air suspension light mean?

It could mean the compress motor has running longer than usual, or you just forgot to turn the switch (in trunk) back on. Usually it means there is a leak in the suspension air bag so the motor keeps pumping. Checked the 2 air bags just like check flat tires, put soapy water and see if bubbles come out. I bought the bags online for about $95 each.

Lincoln Town car. Air suspension check light is on, rear is low

this car has rear air bags.(instead of coil springs perched on top of the rear end)the air suspension switch needs to be shut off whenever either or both rear wheels will be hanging free(ie. changing a rear tire or putting the car on a lift where the lift is not a "drive-on"ramp type lift.there is a height sensor near the rear end and what sometimes happens if someone "jacks up" the rear of the car without turning the air suspension switch OFF the air bags can be damaged and might need to be replaced.FIRST check all the fuses and make sure the switch is turned ON and start the car and let it run.with the hood open you should hear an air compressor running near the air filter box.if its not running sometimes ther will be a "schrader valve "similar to a tire valve on the comressor.try putting air in with an air hose like you would with a tire.if that does not work there should be a connector(probably in the trunk near the air bag switch) that you can get CODES out of with a scan tool .the code(s) will point you in the right direction as to what went bad(most likely the air bags) the air bags are like BIG RUBBER BALLOONS/BLADDERS that can get pinholes over time and leak or even blow out.hope this helps you.

When off the car drops but the air ride raises it upon statring b

It could be either or more. The best bet is to start the car and get it to raise to it's highest level and shut it off. Try to get under it and listen to an air leak. It could be the leveling valve or a line. I would think one of the plastic air lines probably has a hole in it. If you can get the car up on a lift or on ramps, put together a solution of dish soap and water in a spray bottle and spray down all of the air lines, air bags, shocks other componants and look for bubbles. If you can't hear the leak, you'll see the bubbles in the soapy water.

1997 lincoln town car v8 The rear bags are down and doesn't rise. Air compressor goes on, possible bad sensor? please help

If the compressor is running then it is either rear bags are leaking or compressor is to weak.If you have a way to raise car up in the air or at least the rear when you get it up you will probably notice cracks in the bags at the bottom of the bag. A temporary fix is you can take a tube of silicone rubber and rub it over the cracks in the bottom of the bags, let it dry then see if it will raise back up.If it does then you can probably get by with just bags.

Air Rise Suspension/computer module

my brother in law replaced the air springs on my '94 town car with rear coil springs from a '92 crown vic. He raised the rear tires off the ground and put jack stands on the frame for safety on both sides. Then disconnected the shocks at the lower end and removed the air springs.removed rear tires and used a piece of 2x4 to pry axle down to provide clearance to put coil springs in place. then hooked shocks back up and it worked fine. the only way the coil springs could come out is if the car was upside down and then who cares. This project only cost $ 25.00 Real cheap being we were broke!
