Question about 2000 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

I can't get the crankshaft damper pulley off of a 2000 Dodge Stratus, 2.4L, DOHC. My end goal is to remove the timing belt. I have already removed the accessory drive belts, but cannot remove the crankshaft damper pully. Before the pulley gets out far enough to remove it, the pulley bumps up against a body component.

My name is Ben and I'm your guru, i.e., mentor, an influential teacher or popular expert: a management guru. - origin from Sanskrit, 'weighty, grave' for today.

Query: I'm trying to find crank sensor for 2000 dodge stratus 2.4,where is it located on motor

Response: On the passenger side of the engine. You'll have to go under the car and look for the harmonic balancer -- located on the end of the crankshaft and you should see it.It has 1 screw and it is on the engine under the passenger side under the tire by the bottom pulley.

All the best,

How do i use a 10 inch three jaw adjustable puller to remove a crankshaft damper on a 1997 2.4 liter D.O.H.C dodge stratus?

You don't. There is a special 3 jaw puller, specific for Chrysler products and a few other vehicles. I comes with three various length rods that slide into the hole in the end of the crankshaft and into the end of the puller bolt to obtain the correct length. The jaws of the puller have slots rather than hooks that slide onto machined surfaces in the inner part of the damper. These pullers are available for rent at auto parts stores. usually it's free, you just leave a deposit. trying to use a standard puller on the outside of the damper will damage the damper.

I have a 2002 dodge stratus with a 2.4l 4cyl dohc change oil pump

The oil pump is built in the front cover of the crankshaft,it is a kit that installs,to make the pump, check the oil pump screen first, they get stopped up on these,so it could just be that.

Replace water pump on 2004 Dodge Stratus 2.4L DOHC

First, I'd recommend you buy a manual, because the water pump is internally mounted, driven by the timing belt. You will also need a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley. You can usually rent/borrow this from the same place you bought the manual. The manual will also show you how to properly install the timing belt and compress the tensioner.
You will need to drain the cooling system, raise the car (safely), remove the right tire, right inner fender, right engine mount (aka front mount), accessory drive belts, timing belt cover, timing belt and tensioner (which needs to be recompressed correctly), and now you are at the water pump. Since the timing belt has to be removed, you should also replace it.

Cam is on the end of the block, crankshaft sensor is on the bottom of the block. Both are easy to change....are you changing these due to poor performance or no start condition?

What is the trick to removing the harmonic balancer on a stratus

Theres no trick. It has to be cocked or something from all the pulling. Try tapping it back on, use spraylube on the crank and try again. Good luck.
