Re: Parking Brake Light on constant without parking brake...
The light is only tied to the switch at the parking brake handle. Sounds like the switch went bad, or a wire is connected poorly. You'll have to take the cover from around the parking brake handle and check it out, or if you don't feel like it, you could ignore it as well unless your inspection facility won't allow it. If you don't want to fix it yourself, it shouldn't cost much at all to have fixed.

If the light in question is the red brake warning light, you should check the brake fluid and the parking brake first. If it is the ABS light you should have the body computer scanned for trouble codes.
Several possibilities here, First, if your parking brake lever is even slightly engaged your brake light will be on. so check the cable and switch to make sure it is not this. Second is the brake pressure switch on the master cylinder, the switch could be bad or your lines may need bleeding. and last, unless there is a separate light for it you anti-lock brakes could have an issue, which I would recommend a qualified mech look at that.
Just press the parking brake down just a bit, enough so that the Brake light on the dash lights up. That should turn them off. Don't worry it doesnt engage the parking brake. I have been doing this for years with my Tahoe.
no the P light ans system will always be on unless you command a drive or N funtion since there is no 'park' in the drive train only a mechanical brake. when running/on, when you put in drive it should acknoledge drive and P should unlock. if not you have trouble and need the dealer
This light can be caused by your parking being on. If not, it's most likely caused by low brake fluid. Check the fluid level under the hood and fill it up if needed. If that doesn't get rid of the light, you should have it towed to a dealer and don't drive as your brakes may fail at any moment without notice
On the parking brake under the dash is a switch at the top that actuates the parking brake light. On most vehicles most are two wire switches, but some are one wire switches. If you have a two wire switch then you can unplug it and use a test light with the ignition turned on without starting the vehicle and test the wires to see which is the hot wire and then connect to the one that has no voltage on it because it is the ground for the switch. The wire is used to detect the parking brake position as engaged before it will allow viewing of the DVD player when the vehicle is not moving. When the brake is off the DVD player will not play DVDs, this is a safety measure so the driver will not be distracted while driving. Good Luck, RAC
need to get the truck on jack stands remove the wheels and if the truck has drums you maybe able to use some PB blast because the brake cables are rusted for the emergency brakes and at the same time you can check out the condition of your shoes or pads if you get any oil on the shoes or pads use brake cleaner to clean them off
