I'M REPLACING THE TRACK BAR ON MY 199O OLDS CUTLASS CIERA WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RAISE THE CAR FOR THIS JACK STANDS OR CAN i USE RAMPS.

For replacing the track bar the best way is to put the car on jack stands. So you know it is safe.

Starter repairs


Disconnect the battery negative cable and move it away from battery, raise the car up and support it on jack safety stands, go under and the starter is located in front at the rear of engine and goes into the transmission bell housing, remove and mark the wires for future installation reference, unbolt the stater from the engine and drop down to remove.

How to replace starter in a 1991 Cutlass Ciera


I had to do mine recently. You have to remove the radiator to make elbow room. Then jack up the car, as the trick is to remove the motor mount, then jack up the motor itself as high as you can get it to go. At that point you should be able to see the starter. That frees up getting to the starter. The rest is easy, no explanation required, it's just figuring out how to get to it that's a bear. Good luck.

The Ciera requires five (5) quarts when you change the oil and replace the filter. If you don't replace the filter, the capacity is four (4) quarts.

How do i change the front brakes on a 1991 oldsmobile cutlass ciera. i already have the brake paids


Hello, open the hood locate your brake fluid take the top off, than you want to losen the lug nuts one the wheel enough so they turn by hand. Jack up the car high enough to get a jack stand under it and the wheel is off the ground. Once the car is supported securely remove the lug nuts and wheel. Once the wheel is removed remove the screw on the bottom of the brake caliper, remove the old pads. Rotate the caliper upward, using a C-clamp and a old brake pad push the piston back in the caliper. Position the old brake pad to cover the piston and the C-clamp in the center of the old brake pad and slowly turn till the piston is fully retracted in the caliper. Install the new pads, put the caliper back in position, put the caliper screw back in double check work. Once every thing looks ok put the wheel back on, only hand tighten the lug nuts, make sure the wheel is tighten evenly. Remove jack stand, lower the car tighten the lug nuts using a crossing pattern once that is done pump the brakes, till they get firm, after they get firm start the car pump the brakes a few more times. The fun part take it for a test ride but allow your self more than normal distance to stop.

Replacing a starter


I would drive car onto ramps or raise front end on jack stands. 1st take out the two hex head screws that hold on the plastic cover between starter and motor. I had to use a pair of large pliers to pull cover down, you have to pull hard. Then you can see the two bolts that hold starter on. They might be very tight or rusted. I had to use a 1/2 drive breaker bar to break mine loose. The front bolt will be easy but the back bolt is difficult. You will probably need flex-socket. I ended up putting a 1/2 " drive breaker bar onto a 3/8 drive flex-socket with an adapter. This back bolt is about 5" long and difficult to remove even after it is out of the threads. Now take off the two wires that are on the terminals on the back of starter. You will need a 8mm wrench or socket for the small one. You may have to try several ways to remove the starter after it is loose. You then reverse the process This is a fairly difficult job and I do not know if you can do it without a flex-socket for the back bolt..

How do you get the starter off of a 1988 oldsmobile ciera?


First unhook pos. battery cable at battery, next unhook cable on starter selonoid and small wire on selonoid, next craw under car (you may have to jack up car and support it with jack stands) remove inspection cover on flywheel then the 2 bolts that hold starter in and thats it starter will come out.

What are the steps to get the pan off the side of the tranny on a 1994 olds cutlas cierain the vehicle


Put the car up on jack stands,remove left front wheel,seperate strut and knuckle popout left side axle shaft and tie out of way,support engine and trans from bottom,remove trans mount that attaches to side cover,remove pan/cover bolts raise and lower eng/trans assembly as needed to wiggle pan/cover out.hope this helps

Who knows about swapping transmissions?


The book written way to do this is remove the frame(big sqaure held on with 4 bolts) under neath the front end and drop it out the bottom. in order to do so you support the motor with a cross bar and cable that stretches accross the strut towers(keep the motor from falling out). obviously that is hard to do without a vehicle hoist although posible with jack stands and some struggling. You could do it the way your talking if desparate and have more time.
