A back fire is caused by detonation/low grade gas , detonation high fuel temperature via overheating engine, poor or incorrect valve timing , all of these things contribute to power loss , if you give detailed info it will help your cause

2004 chevy trailblazer power loss, high rpms, low ppms

Check the timing chain. Some times the chain will shift with worn teeth and get out of synch. This will cause the engine to lose power and back fire. Sometimes with a flame through the carb. I did that one once. Easy fix if it is the problem.

I have a problem engine idles good but when I press on the gas it back fires and wants to quit running

a couple of problem areas to check first is fuel -most likely problem is fuel filter clogging -other problem s to look at are air filter -egr valve clogging ,builds up with carbon robs power remove and clean off carbon and fuel pump can be causing loss thru pressure [leak ]or pump losing pressure [going bad]

may be its not your sparkplugs, but may be your coil pack usually gives fire to your wires which feeds spark plugs that could be why your losing power, good luck

My trooper just had a sudden power loss . shut it off, would'nt start back up. cleaned battery terminals, jumped it off. dramatic power loss, head lights dim. think mabey problems in the fireing?

try replacing ur altinator usually when u lose power or headlights go din it usually means ur alternator has lost its charge and will not hold up enuff juice to keep ya car running.

Loss of power uphills and shifting improperly.

It sounds very much like your clutch is slipping. If the engine revs continue to rise when in gear and the car does not increase it's speed accordingly then if it is a manual car then you need a new clutch.

Head lights dimming and losing power while driving

Next time this happens, pull over and unscrew the gas cap. The vent may be clogged.

Otherwise, your catalytic converter may be failing. It can also clog and hinder engine exhaust.

Good luck !

Check your intake and exhaust modules. I have a 1987 D21 and had the same problem (if I understand your post). I replaced the modules located behind the driver side headlights and it fixed the problem. Good luck! I hope this helps.
