Question about 1997 Lincoln Town Car
Car will crank but will not start. Has a spark but will not start. Anti-theft light on dask blinks. I entered the keyless code and it opens the door. Mechanic states that all the fuses and relays to the fuel system are working. Is there a way to disarm or diagnose this problem... Thank you in adavnce for your time.
The anti-theft devices have usually an engine cutout system - when engaged the engine management system (ECU) is disabled. Since i don't know what model the anti-theft is and how it was installed i can't be more precise but the cheap ones just cut the power to the ECU and the expensive or factory ones do that by actually disabling the ECU electronically.
To disable a cheap, after-market one all you need to do is to identify the wires that go from the remote to the ECU and short the ones corresponding to the power wire - delicate job, you can damage the ECU if you pick the wrong wires. If you don't have some experience with that it's better to live that to a professional.
Unfortunately you can't do anything if it's a factory one - it can be fixed only by a dealer or authorized repairman.
